Well according to some (those who always think the Habs players will get gazilions) he was supposed to sign for more than 1 mil per.

Glad to see him signed though, good amount too.

Yeah, I realized that afterwards, but it makes it even worst.

Not to mention he was coming off the world juniors and a championship run with the Bulldogs before starting his first season with the Habs where he was given the reigns between the pipes at the trade deadline.

Ridiculous the amount of competition this guy's been through in the past 2 years. No wonder he burnt out,

“Jaroslav has proven to be a quality NHL goaltender. He played very well for us when called upon over the past two seasons. He is young competitor with great skills and an excellent work ethic ’’ said Bob Gainey.

775k for 2 years is very good for both parties, should Marc Denis get back on track, Halak with this salary could become a great trade bait if he puts up good numbers. And for now, Montreal is the only place where Halak could play in the NHL this year.

There is too much backup goaltenders available right now.

He was 20 years old for Prissakes.

His regular season numbers tend to show that he has a LOT of upside (very similar to Brodeur's rookie season numbers). Brodeur turned 22 the week after they were eliminated.

One playoff run at the age of 20 and he's already labeled a choker... altho he made 2 shutouts in the first round...

I can understand why players are afraid to play here.
I didn't say that he was a choker becase he did not win the cup but sucked in the playoffs. My post was about Halak and if Price does not do well next year Halak will be in a very good position.

I wouldn't say he choked...he just didn't have the required experience to deal with NHL playoff type pressure...wether in Montreal or elswhere. Hopefully he learns from it and is more mentally ready for the playoffs next year.

Agreed, if Price struggles then Halak will get his chance to shine. My money is on Price being very good but it's nice to have a goalie like Halak there as well in case things do go wrong.

So we now have 8.6 Million left in cap space. I figure we get O'Byrne for about the same as Halak. Gorges will be more, any speculation? I'd like to have that 7 mil left for Sundin.

Oburn won't get more than 600k...

And I'm not entirely sure Gorges will reach 1 mil.

So that makes it about 1.6 mil... 7 mil left for Sundin and if he wants a bit more, give the boot to Dandy.

Sounds close to what I was thinking, although Gorges does have a whole season under his belt now. Could always bury Dandy's contract in Hamilton I suppose, it's tight!

Hey, if Gauthier was able to get a spot on the Kings, I don't see how BG couldn't find someone to take Dandy.

Don't forget that if Sundin signs, Chipchura is probably headed back to Hamilton (too many forwards on the roster) so that frees up 942 K. Without Chippy, we have $9,549,166 of cap space right now.

O'Byrne 700K
Gorges 975K

Should Sundin come to town (i think he will) El Dandy is expandable with is $1.8M if required.

I'd believe that Chips makes the team, Lapierre moves to the wing and one of Kosto/Begin gets axed.

I'm very happy with the contract. I'm also really happy that Gainey has been able to keep these extensions within the reasonable/bargain range.

I wouldn't say axed... I rather think Bégin and to a lesser extent Kostopoulos, would be the most likely to get last year's "Dandy" treatment and stay in the pressbox.
