well, Gillis I don't think wanted to pay him that much, or else he would've just sent him a offer sheet and kept the 3rd round pick. I think Gillis was probably offering around 2M, and hoping Bernier would accept.

St. Louis offers 2.5, Bernier accepts knowing Gillis will match. Good deal for him.

NIce. My hope is that the offer sheet will become more common. IT adds an extra element of excitement to the offseason and a GM needs to increase his skill set to guard against and properly execute an offer sheet.

Turnabout is fair play. Gillis should have known this was a likely occurrence as soon as he signed Backes. It's his own fault for not signing Bernier immediately after the trade.

I'm guessing by this then that it's a one year deal?

Not as big a "fan" of the move if so. This means if Bernier has a monster season with the twins this year, he'll be expecting a big raise. ****, I have to admit though, pretty clever from JD.
