This could hurt us. Davidson probably see's Bernier putting up big numbers next year and a 1 year deal will hurt us in the summer of '09. Vindictive move with no intention of acquiring Bernier.
Why the **** would Bernier sign it. I would be pretty pissed at him if I was Gillis and the Canucks. Stick the kid on the 3rd line and keep his production to a minimum. Absolute garbage by Bernier if he signed it.
however, does this mean that Steve didnt want to play for the Canucks or was just a means to an end?
well, Gillis I don't think wanted to pay him that much, or else he would've just sent him a offer sheet and kept the 3rd round pick. I think Gillis was probably offering around 2M, and hoping Bernier would accept.
St. Louis offers 2.5, Bernier accepts knowing Gillis will match. Good deal for him.
NIce. My hope is that the offer sheet will become more common. IT adds an extra element of excitement to the offseason and a GM needs to increase his skill set to guard against and properly execute an offer sheet.
Well played St. Louis well played. I'm sure Gillis is having a good chuckle and raising a glass to Davidson.

Get over yourself. Should Kesler be demoted to Manitoba for signing his offer sheet?
Turnabout is fair play. Gillis should have known this was a likely occurrence as soon as he signed Backes. It's his own fault for not signing Bernier immediately after the trade.

Holding a stupid grudge like that does nothing to help the team. Whats done is done. We match the offer and focus back on signing Sundin.
The Blues have signed Group II free agent forward Steve Bernier to an offer sheet worth $2.5 million for next season.
I'm guessing by this then that it's a one year deal?
Not as big a "fan" of the move if so. This means if Bernier has a monster season with the twins this year, he'll be expecting a big raise. ****, I have to admit though, pretty clever from JD.
St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that the club has signed Group II free agent forward Steve Bernier to an offer sheet worth $2.5 million for next season.
