We have one of the best backups in the NHL locked up for two years with a miniscule cap hit. Unlike with most backups I would in no way give up my hopes for the season if he was forced to become our starter. In fact, I look forward to seeing him play and hope to see him get around 25 games this season.

We have a ton of guys that need new contracts before next year; there's absolutely no reason to send away an affordable, excellent young goalie.
I realize that Jaroslav Halak has far BETTER potential than just a backup. If he plays as good as he should this year he will outgrow the backup position. And notice he has Patrick Roy on his mask and not Brian Hayward.

Well, does that mean that Carey Price wants to be a country singer one day because of what he's got on his mask and because of that give the starting goalie position to Halak??

Well then he has misplaced ambitions: he shouldnt goal for us since he's a dreamer with other projects in his head. Trade him and let Halak and his Patrick Roy image lead us to the Cup!!

Halak will be in uniform for 82 games (but will start far fewer).

I hope he gets sent to the AHL after Denis plays an outstanding game called up in November, just to know that you are crying

Please show me the rule you are relying on.

He isn't 24.

He's a goalie.

He hasn't played 80 NHL games.

What have you got?

im gonna say 32

i like halak, and although i think Price is great, he is not ready to handle all the games himself. Halak is a capable goalie, and i look forward to see what he can do for the habs this season. i hope that halak does not get traded before 09-10 season...

doesnt anybody find it weird that HALAK has been signed for 2 years,

that means that he and PRICE will have to negociate a contract at the same time.

Wonder what that means? Do they keep the best goalie?

I hope between 25 and 32 games.
Halak has awesome potential, I hope we ll get a Toskala -like return for him in 2-3 years. Until then I hope to see him improove and give us more great goalie controversies until Price will be a prooven goalie.

perhaps "choke" would be too strong of a word to describe Price's playoff performance but he definitely didn't perform very well...I don't think you can be called a choker in your 1st year, but if he repeats that performance say maybe twice more, I'd understand if people labeled him a choke artist...

in the mean time, great signing for the habs, anybody knows if halak will be a rfa or ufa after this contract ends?

Halak = 32 games
Price = 50 games

why would Danis ever get a start? (barring injuries)

I figure is (edit: if) Halak plays much more than 30 games, our Price plan for 08-09 didn't quite work out. So i don't want to see Halak play more than 25.

Unless it's an injury to Price, which I also don't want to happen.

I like Halak. 800 K is an absolute steal.

Good point, especially when you consider he's no longer with the team.

I'm just breaking your balls.

Between 25 and 30 starts I would imagine. We can't start Price in 75 games yet.

What's wrong with Brian Hayward? I was a huge Hayward fan back in the day!! As for Halak, 25-30 starts.

Chicago is paying 12.375M for their 2 goalies.
We are paying 2.975M for our 2 goalies (including bonus space)

Only 6 teams are paying less than us.
