The Habs board annual 'I was wrong' thread

In light of certain blow hard statements, let's all share our mistakes and be big enough to admit when we were wrong. Everyone's got an opinion, and posters tend to voice that opinion, over...and over...and over again.

What were you so adamant about last season that, in hindsight, proved to be wrong?

I'll go 1st:
-I wasn't thrilled with the Hamrlik signing and thought he'd be wildly inconsistent with our team.
-I was positive Brisebois would actually retire before ever playing a regular season game
-I thought Grabovski would establish himself as a scoring threat
-I did not predict the Habs to finish 1st in the East

Now it's your turn.

1) Thought Kost Sr was a bust and we should trade him (some time last fall I actually proposed a Kost Sr for Bourdon trade)
2) Thought Higgins would be a 35-40 goal scorer
3) Thought Halak would make it before Price
4) Thought Habs would be life and death to make playoffs (7th to 10th seed)
5) Didn't think Kovalev would rebound
6) Thought the Habs would beat the Bruins in 5 and the Flyers in 7

I thought that Grabovski could be a bigger part of the team than he ended up being.

I thought the Habs would finish about 4-6th in the East.

I didn't think that O'Byrne and Sergei Kost were quite ready when they were called up. I wanted to see Sergei try and control entire games like Grabovski ended up doing later in the season. I also wanted to see the Ryan O'Byrne from the playoffs the year before who could handle the puck, not just cough it up in new and embarrassing ways.

There are probably some others but I can't recall them right now.

Btw.. Blades of Steel - how about adding (or something like it) to the end of your sig?

I never thought Corey Locke would dress in a Habs game.

After Ryder got sent to the ECHL for the 2nd time, I never thought he would make the NHL.

I thought Marcel Hossa would be a decent NHLer.

Seriously, I was so wrong on so many things that it would take forever to list them all..

I've always had a lot of faith in the kostitsyns and especially kovalev.

I thought Halak would make it before Price and even be the better goalie in long term.

I thought Higgins would be an 80pt 40g+ guy. boy was I wrong.

I thought the habs would sweep the bruins and beat the flyers in 5 :

If we want to go league wide, I thought J-Bo [I use the cool name because I can't spell] would be a Norris candidate by now.

I thought NJ would be in a lowere echelon re-building situation by now.

I can't say that anyone on the CH shocked me, though I was very surprised that they were able to win as much as they did. Probably Kovalev taking on as much responsibility as he did, and Hamrlik being more of mentor type than I'd expected.

I've got one for you. <---- I edited this to say this was funny and not remove it(lol I guess I have many for you would've been more appropriate )

I thought Corey Locke would be our next bigtime scoring guy in the near future

I thought Ryder would bounce back in the playoffs

I thought Marcel Hossa would be at least a decent NHLer as well.

I thought Valerie Bure would be a GOOD nhler.

I thought Pavel Bure would come back eventually

LOL I can't say I blame you considering those were the sentiments of 90% of the people on these forums. But I must say, I always knew Kovalev had it in him to be an HUGE offensive threat like he was last season and I knew he would. Dunno why he played like **** that one season but every player has a couple bad seasons and I think of Kovalev as one of the best players of our time (skillz ) so I knew he'd bounce back.

I honestly predict Kovalev will be a 90pt guy next season. I know it's unrealistic, but I have a feeling.

And just like you, I thought Ryder would rebound, and still do, but for Boston

- i was sure the habs could not make it to finish first, but ottawa sucked, and they managed to pass them

-i was sure Skost was going to be sent back down before his 10th game, but he was great and management decided to keep him on!

Mark me down for that one too.

I also thought that McPhee would look better in a light blue cocktail dress. Boy, was I wrong.

I thought nobody would get upset that we didn't draft any quebecers after acquiring Tanguay.

I'm another one who thought Kovalev would be useless again last year.

I thought Ryder would show 'em all last playoffs.

I thought Gainey would never, ever be able to get rid of Samsonov without buying him out.

I thought the Habs would be on the playoff bubble again.

I thought there would be yet another Christmas roadtrip disaster.

for playoffs. I thought Boston wouldn't win a game. And felt the same about Philly.

Regular Season,
-I thought Ryder/Higgins/Koivu was our top line.
-Thought Huet should NOT have been traded (not opening up that can of worms)
-Thought Streit would be "ok" but for sure not 3rd in points with 62.
-Thought Carey Price should be in the AHL and Halak should have stayed up.
-Thought we were done at 0-5 against the rangers. (i turned the radio off, tuned back in at 3-5 and stayed for history)

- I thought Chipchura would get to see at least 70 games
- I did not expect our powerplay to be as dominant as it was after losing Souray
- I never thought I would see the day where we would win the season series against the Devils
- I did not expect the kind of season Kovy had, I thought he would loaf and put up 60 points at the most
- I thought for sure that Ryder, Halak + a 2nd would happen

Hmm good thread...Since I'm pretty conservative I don't have that much things to say that ended up being really wrong, (but also not much things that I said were absolutly right...)

- I didn't think Kovalev would rebound AS MUCH as he did.
- I thought Higgins would hit the 30 goals mark THIS SEASON.
- I didn't even think one second about the possibility of having S.Kostitsyn on the team as soon as this season.
- I thought the signing of Smolinski was probably a good thing since I trust Gainey (and I trusted him from the first day he was named GM), and IMO it didn't end up as a good signing.
