No big surprise in terms of Filatov, in my opinion I would like to see him start in Syracuse and if he is struggling, then send him to Sudbury. As I said before, this is a situation similar to Jiri Tlusty. Hopefully Filatov can have an NHL impact quicker than Tlusty though.

See ice time where? In Sudbury? They were a pretty bad team last year, and this year is still a part of their rebuilding program. He could be paired with Jared Staal down there. You're right about the recall factor, it would be no prob to recall him from the 'Cuse. I guess we'll have to see how he does in camp and in the early part of the season. His development will certainly be interesting!

As for Mayorov, this is a surprise for sure. I really hope he reports, he would join recent draftee Matt Calvert on the Wheaties. Brandon should be a good team this season, and it would be great for Mayorov's devlopment if he were to come over to NA.

Another thought, often with the import draft, teams already have deals worked out with the players they draft. Sometimes if its a player that is already drafted by an NHL club, like Mayorov, the NHL team will have a bit of influence on which CHL club he goes to. Calvert will likely be our top CHL prospect this year, so maybe they wanted to see if they could create something? Mind you Calvert played on a solid line last year with Schenn and Glennie so the Wheaties might not want to split that up.....anyways, it's good to speculate!

Sorry, yeah, I was writing that before the threads got merged. I have to think that Filatov will probably not see Sudbury unless he seems to struggle. We'll see though...

Is Popperle UFA? Where does he fit?

He's an RFA, and wasn't qualified....so he'll be a UFA July 1.

I think he's heading overseas.

I thought that Popperle signed a contract to go to Europe next season.

Just checking. Thanks for the Pop-dates.

Maybe I'm off-base, 'cause I'm not as in-tune with the lower reaches of the organ-eye-zation, but it seems very thin in net. Anyone with thoughts?

Eh?

This is the first year we haven't drafted a goalie of some form or another. We have Pazzy, Freddy, LaCosta, Mason, and York still in the system, and I could see getting someone on a 2 way or AHL contract to mentor Mason in the Cuse pretty easily. I think we'll be all right.

Could probably retain Goehring for mentor purposes. I fear he may never make it to the NHL 'cause of his size, but he's still pretty awesome in Syracuse from what I hear.

Our favorite CBJ Fanboy Aaron Portzline is reporting in the 'patch today that CSKA Moscow is claiming Filatov still has a year left on a contract with them...

Here we freaking go again with Central Army. First Zherdev , now Filatov.

Howson denied the report and Don Meehan expects the only trouble Filatov has left to encounter will be with a visa... stay tuned.

Grant Clitsome

I know that Clarkson is a top NCAA program but don't recall hearing much about him last year. Is he a legitimate prospect or just destined for the AHL?

Doesn't exactly belong here, but saw a link saying Plekhanov and Wilson were re-signed today, along with a depth winger for the Crunch by the name of John Vigilante (played for the Admirals last year).

just trying to figure out who, of the "non" prospects, will be back since we have quite a few prospects who could play for Syracuse this year.

I doubt Munro will be back, he's pushed out by Mason and was way too injury prone. And I really hope Cullen won't be back. That's all I have to add to what Macster said.

Right on, I hadn't seen that anywhere.

Driesen- Cullen signed in Austria, so he's off the list.

If we can convince him to stay in North America / get him signed, Kosmachev might well be in Syracuse, too. He's appeared to be very steady in prospect camp, and I'd imagine the CBJ brass would love to have him as an option.

Agreed... We're already "stealing" one player from Russia, lets pack them all together and sneak as many through as possible
