Hank Summer Interview

Swedish main daily DN had an interview with Our Lord Saviour today.

I can't be arsed to translate the entire interview, mainly because it's one of the worst that I've read (either it's the reporter is really bad or Hank was drunk, neither unlikely given the circumstances).

But here's the highlites of the interview (selected by me).
--
Not long ago he signed a 6 year contract with NYR that made him economically independant. Money that he has started to invest.

- I've bought some real estate and apartments. One in Florida and one in New York of course. The economy is settled now, no discussion about that. You'll have to try and invest wisely, live good and continue to buy more real estate.

Dubai?
- That will have to be my next buy (laughs).

Any plans of using your name in business in the future?
- That's big business in USA of course. I've got some proposals already, not that big but anyway. We'll see, but I better cool it down before I think that I'm Björn Borg.

You're called King Henrik and you hang out with royalties nowadays. What's your relation to Princess Madeleine?
- We've got common friends in New York and they introduced us. Regarding that nick-name it was coined by New York Post after I had a good season and the only think I can say is that I don't have anything against it.

You like fashion?
- I like to dress nice, but you can't compare me to Freddie Ljungberg. But sure, I like to shop.

Now you're established in the NHL, how much politics was it before you got your break
- It's politics in NHL in that players with big contracts and players that you have to play. I was lucky because the competition wasn't that hard when I got over. You don't get many chances when you're a 7:th pick on an NHL team. You have to be 100% ready when you get there, or it'll end bad.

Who supported you?
- Darius Kasparaitis helped me a lot. But he had a Swedish wife then, now he's got another Swedish girl (laughs).

The Diva, Jaromir Jagr has left the Rangers for Russia, what do you say about that?
- Jagr is basicly a very nice person, a bit quiet when it comes to new people on the team maybe. But he puts enormous pressure on him self and on his environment.

Did he chew you down?
- I made a big mistake and we lost that game. Then he was seriously miffed with me, but so was Nylander. Just stuff you have to live with.

Hank, i love you buddy, but please don't be that guy.

Yea, the economy has settled FOR YOU because you just signed a contract that guarantees you will earn 6+ MILLION dollars per year for more then half a decade.

My bad (and the lousy reporter), not Hank.

What he says is that _he_ is economically independant.

He doesn't even hint at the US economy being settled.

I HATE when these celebrity types CLAIM there is no recession. They don't feel it because they MAKE RIDICULOUS AMOUNTS OF MONEY for doing relatively nothing. In this case playing a sport. Living in their multi-million dollar condos and mansions in Malibu.

... end rant
I agree on every point.

But what ever you do, don't mention gas prices.

They're about 8 USD/gallon over here

8?

If the time for alternate sources of energy wasn't now, then when?

This guy in France i believe, invented a motor that runs on pure compressed air, fed by compressed air tanks made of carbon fiber (hockey sticks, skates), and can be refilled by a generator that runs on... you guessed it, compressed air. And here is the catch, it emits nothing but clean, pure, COLD air.

They have developed cars already, nothing in mass market though.

They get very good millage per tank, too.

I'll try to find a youtube video.

Oh yea, and they're cheaper then current vehicles.

I felt that it was so obvious that it wasn't worth the effort.

Well actually. Hank "stole" the backup job from someone named Montoya (if anyone still remembers him).

Then he gained the #1 spot when Weekes was injured.

I don't think Montoya was a shoe-in for the backup spot. If I remember correctly, he was fresh out of college, and by that time everyone knew Lundqvist was a very talented goalie that was likely to be backing up Weekes

His competition in Sweden (on other teams) wasn't too shabby either... Was the Swedish Elite league the best in the world during the lockout (when he won MVP and the championship)? I would have to say it was...

I don't like how Jagr was called a diva by the reporter, glad Hank stood up for him.

Well it's completely offtopic, but 8$ per gallon is almost the same price across whole Europe.
Now imagine that you are living in a country where average salary is something like 25% of us average salary...

And don't get me started on taxes in sweden. I estimate that to get 20€ in the hand I have to get a 100€ from my company. 80€ is taxes in different forms.

/Cheers

Yes, but your public transportation system is much, much better, making cars less essential than they are in most areas of the US and Canada.

Thanks for posting that Pukku. Formula One engines use compressed air in place of a valve spring, but I had not thought you could generate enough power with it to drive a piston.
