Someone may have commented on this already so forgive me if it been brought up. But listening to the Demitra interview after his signing makes me think this Sundin thing is for real. Just the way he answered the questions surrounding Sundin. If you havent heard it the interview is found at Canucks.com

Self-fulfilling prophecy!

We're dooming ourselves to horrible disapointment!

You know it gets bad when people start reading into a sly grin Gary Valk gives on Sportsnet.

Try being around in 1970 - when at first it looked like the Canucks won the right to draft Gilbert Perreault.

I started watching the Nucks in '89 (I'm 26 now) so I missed out on that.

Could you imagine, though, if HF/CDC was around back then?

"OMG WE GOT PERREAULT! YES! THIS GUY IS GOING TO BE THE NEXT RICHARD!"

"HEY ***, THEY'RE SAYING IT ISN'T A 2, IT'S AN 11! WHAT THE HELL??? I thought it was a 2??>!?!??"

"THe NHL is fixed, that should have been a roman numeral 2!!! The east once again shows its bias!!!!"

"OH well, Perrault's a bust, Dale Tallon is a machine!!!"

"GOd I hate Ron Delorme."

Yes I noticed that as well, when asked about Sundin coming here he was very coy about it and quickly said "Go ask Gillis about, don't ask me."

but when he's 35 we'll need the top 6 spots for guys in the pipeline now that will be making 1/4 of demitra's current contract.

And, two years coincides with Luongo's contract.

If Luongo isn't going to sign an extension, then the whole strategy for how this club is put together will shift. Who knows if Demitra will be wanted here or will want to be here.

I prefer the 2 yr deal as well. In 3 years, Raymond, Edler and Hansen will be 25, Grabner 24... seeing as how contracts have been going out for the 24-25 YOs right now, I'd rather not tie up $4mill in cap space for a 36 YO forward near his end, when our future will be all at an age where players are now getting those big contracts.

I'd also expect to see those guys - Raymond, Hansen and Grabner - hopefully along with Hodgson taking a big role with this team 3 years down the road... don't see the use of having a $4mill declining player taking up room in the top 6...

3 yrs from now?

Sedin-Sedin-Bernier
Raymond-Hodgson-Grabner
Burrows-Kesler-Hansen

could be a good future up front, if these guys all develop as they should...
