Anyway, I seriously doubt there will be any problem getting Chere to come over next year. If Zherdev and Cherepanov are on the right flank next year, we'll be pretty much set on the top two lines.
If he wanted to come here so bad you think he would make it here for a rookie camp to see what its like before he made the Jump from KHL to NHL.

And actually you dont know the half of it there

Honestly he really was the 17th pick because of the transfer agreement.

he would have gone top 3

Anisimov got $850,000 which was the max for his draft class, despite being a 2nd round pick.

The Rangers are in a no-win situation with Cherepanov imo...at least a no win situation for the immediate future....

What I mean is if Cherepanov has a fantastic year for Omsk chances are they offer him WAY more money then the Rangers can offer...If Cherepanov has a down year and shows he isn't ready to join the NHL is a trip to Hartford appealing enough for Cherepanov?

These things will all work themselves out but I'm not so sure he's coming over next season..I think it's 60/40 he is but I can see it NOT happening...

Honestly, I'd like to see an extension for Zherdev before I even begin to worry about what Cherepanov is doing next season.

The Great Dubinsky:

The RSL/KHL teams start their own training camp in a couple of weeks. Doesn't Chere deserve some time oiff the ice? Why are people getrting so angry with a 19 year old kid who is clearly being used in the media by his own GM?

Correction, camp opens on Tuesday and Omsk head to Croatia for a week on Wednesday.

A little bit of news, from Slap Shots.

Cherepanov's agent confirms he won't be coming over this year (nothing we didn't already know) and also states that Cherepanov is very interested in playing in the NHL, but feels he needs to develop his "game smarts" and improve his physical conditioning first

Quote:
“We have long discussed this issue. Of course, Cherepanov very much wants to try himself in the NHL, but for the moment the player himself understands that he should develop game smarts and physical conditioning. This season Alexei will stay in Omsk. I note that for Cherepanov, the fact that Jaromir Jagr will be his Avangard teammate will be of great help. Perhaps they will play on the same line.”
http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/20...s-this-season/

Considering his somewhat disappointing season last year and reportedly subpar conditioning for part of it, I don't think another year to get into better shape and develop his game more is going to hurt anything. And if he really does want to play in the NHL, he'll come over at some point

The same people that constantly criticized Jagr's style of play should be concerned that Jagr and Cherepanov can potentially be on the same line next season.

Nope. Avangrad head coach said they will run czech line with Kleips, Rosa and Jagr and same old Popov, Kurri and Cherepanov line. Maybe other small speedy winger Alexandrov instead of Popov. Not so good for Cherep cuz Jags likes long shifts and lot of ice time. Not so good for Jagr too cuz Rosa even slower than he and can't skate and in KHL rinks you need to skate your ass off to be effective.

I imagine line combos will change if things aren't working...would like to see Cherepanov with better linemates though, from what I remember being said about them...Avy, didn't you say his linemates blew a lot of chances that he set up for them last year?

His center Kurrianov is very good young player. Cherepanov can only blame his own horrible conditions.

And thanks good Babchuck and Lupachuk finally gone. This pair of idiots almost killed Omsk PP last year.

Chere was in the development camp...last year. As long as he's under contract to Omsk, Omsk is going to dictate what he can and can't do hockey-wise. After his contract ends this year, he'll be free to do whatever he wants, and all indications from Chere have been that he wants to play in the NHL.

I'm not as worried as other people.

There are specific reasons he is not coming here this year, and there are a few factors that could play into him wanting to leave Omsk, other then wanting to play in the NHL, like he said he wants to.

-He felt this year was a let down year and he wanted to have a breakout year before coming over. He said this.

-Being loyal and honoring his last year of the contract.

-Jagr is signed for 2 years. Cherepanov feels as though he is a top player in the RSL(KHL) and why would he chose to take a diminished role as 2nd or 3rd line RW, when he can and will be at least a 2nd line RW the first year he comes to the US.

Him not coming over next season saves the Rangers, and Cherepanov, a huge headache. Cherepanov will be allowed to play internationally now, and the Rangers don't have to compensate Omsk in anyway if he comes over after hos contract expires.

Not sure why people can't see the upside to this.

And as far as camp goes, like GAGLine said, he is under contract with Omsk right now, why miss the beginning of the season just for training camp? He wanted to avoid missing time and out produce his previous RSL years before he comes over.

I'm not that worried.

And, if he chooses not to come, Sather had the foresight to cover his bases and acquire Zherdev.

umm, not to be a jerk, but it looks to me like the only russian on the roster is Kalinan...
Zherdev is Ukrainian, and Anisimov and Grachev have not earned a spot yet....
