That's the game, and you know it. Every single athlete in every single sport says stuff like that, then goes for the money. These guys have 10-15 years to make the money that will have to last them the rest of their lives. To us, the difference between 3.5 million and 4 million is apples and oranges, but why shouldn't he go where the money is?

Avery did his job incredibly well while he was here, and I'm extremely grateful for that. Just because he left doesn't soil my thoughts about the guy. I'll continue to maintain he was one of my favorite players when he played for us -- he'll continue to be one of my favorite players in the league not named Malkin and Ovechkin.

This guy brought all of you 1 and a half years of entertainment on ice and what does he get in return?

"that greedy ******* isnt worth my time"
"ehh... he isn't worth my time anymore"

That's just horrible.

Miss you, Sean! =]

I always get a kick out a fan who calls a player greedy when he goes to the OTHER team.

It is crazy to think that they didnt resign avery. I really cant believe it. I am a huge Jagr fan obviously and them not signing i can some what understand (although i think the rangers are turning into the Devils, and i'm glad i'm going to stop watching Rangers games) but Avery was the fire in the team and their record with him in the line up says it all. The only negative thing about the signing would have been the years but cant you just easily trade him if he becomes bad? The AVERY RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! come on Glen, bad game.

Sorry, but i have to be honest, love him or hate him - a lot of you are sounding like Devils fans when they *****ed about Gomez if you ask me...

"Oh!!! he said he bled ranger blue!! OMG!!"

"Waaa waa waaa he said he was going to remain a Ranger!!"

Get over it.

This is a business and a sport not a high school prom or a patty-cake session.

The money didnt equal out, and the Rangers went a different direction. Thats it.

to be fair... gomez was our groomed talent. So when he did say stuff like that... some fans tend to believe it because there was more of a base with us.. more of a chance he meant it. Avery was bounced on to his 3rd team in how many years? You have to be skeptical with what he says.

I never believed him (Gomez). I personally thought Avery really liked New York, and was slightly shocked by all this. He's more valuable to the Rangers than any other team, I feel. A lot of people make fun of the Holik signing. While I think he got too much, he is still one of those guys that will be more valuable to us than most teams (man i hope!)

And Gomer did say the one team he would NOT go to was the Rangers. Hahahaha, good for you Gomer, you know the right side of the river.

Over the life of the contract it is going to equate to a lot more then just a couple of hundred G's. Secondly, with his style of play, coupled with his size, his body may start breaking down soon, heck he was out last year with a few injuries. Could be an anomoly or could be the start of a pattern. If the latter is the case then this could be his only big money contract. You have to take it. Its a business first and foremost, and people need to grow up and realize that. These peoples first loyalty is to themselves and their family, same as it would be for anyone here. So get over it.
Good Luck Sean, thanks for the memories.

That was good. I liked at the end where they brought up his injuries and asked him how he felt. He said something to the effect of, "I feel like a million bucks. But I had a girl the other day tell me I look 34 and I'm only 28, so who knows?"

I honestly never liked him personally, and still don't. But he played his tail off when he was here, more than earned what he was paid, and if he feels he's worth more than the Rangers were offering, more power to him. I honestly never got the feeling that Sather liked him or tried all that hard to keep him around. Can't blame a guy for moving on.

I'd imagine the taxes in Texas are not near what they are in new york.

There's no state income tax in Texas. Compared to near 7% for top bracket in New York, that's quite a savings
