"Per the International Ice Hockey Federation's official site, IIHF President René Fasel has informed the Continental Hockey League that Salavat Yulaev's signing of Alexander Radulov is a
blatant violation of the verbal agreement that was made in May and reiterated yesterday with a plan to formalize it in writing.

The IIHF has asked the KHL to void the contract. In the KHL does not comply, the IIHF has said it will disqualify Radulov from playing in all IIHF-sanctioned events, including the new the Champions Hockey League, the IIHF World Championships and the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In addition, the IIHF may take punitive action against the Salavat Yulayev club, which as the 2007-08 Russian champion is scheduled to participate in the Champions Hockey League."

Per Bill Meltzer from Hockeybuzz
From the Trade Rumors board. Asssuming the contract is voided (far from guaranteed) I'd assume Nashville would be looking to trade him rather than retaining him, and that his value would not be exactly high.

A risk that he bolts after this season anyway, but he would be exactly what this team is lacking for this season, a top 6 winger making less than $1million. Further, he and Zherdev are reportedly friends. Whole situation sucks for Nashville, but I would still love to have Radulov.

2008-2009 is the only year he's under contract for in the NHL.

He'd be a RFA for 4 more seasons after this one (I believe). The RSL contract he signed is for 3 years, reportedly between $4million and $8 million per year in value, depending on which source you believe.

Wait wait wait - you guys want to wager MORE organizational assets on the "Russian situation"?!

That's not a risky strategy at all...

Or Salavat could just offer them both more than Slats will be able to fit under the salary cap next year. Then we're right back where we were this year, looking for at least two top six wingers. No thanks.

3rd rounder + Moore for Radulov?

Am I missing something or is Radulov suddenly available, and not only that, he's available for garbage and a garbage pick - a kid who has a lot of promise?

Radulov broke his NHL contract and signed a 3 year deal in Russia. However, the IIHF is trying to void the contract and force him to finish out his NHL deal (1 more year). Assuming the contract is voided and he's forced to return to Nashville, I'd have to believe he'd have worn his welcome there. Further, his value should be significantly lower, although I don't think Moore and a third gets it done.

Sounds like the KHL is jumping the gun in it eagerness to announce the signings of NHL players.

Quote:
“I received a message from Sergei this morning saying that he ‘hasn’t signed a contract for next season,’” the post reads.

“Brylin is attending the NHLPA European Player Meetings in Rome and passed that message along via e-mail to me through someone with the NHLPA.
Brylin Unsigned

Vinny signs a 11 year 85 million dollar extension.

Vinny 7.72 a year

Gomez 7.4ish?

Drury 7.0?

I wanna vomit...

I'm sure if Gomez and Drury had started their careers here, won a cup here and were offered 11 year contracts, they probably would have taken a discount as well.

OT: Williams snubs Ottawa...

signs with Atlanta instead for an extra 300k a year.

Does anyone think that this trend will continue and get worse year after year? We saw it happen last year with Nylander...
