its on the trade rumor board....he supposedly got a contract offer from SKA. I doubt he is going to move his family to Russia or leave his family behind.

Its not so much that I think NYR needs Shanny next year. I think he'd be great with a limited on ice role.

Id be way more pissed if we had a young guy like Radulov jump ship....

Theres always rumors of Shanny taking a gig with the NHL of the NHLPA after he retires.

A stint in Russia could hurt that or help that?

Translation: СКА wants one more 3-fold owner of a cup Stanley Kak it became known "Chempionat.ru" from the informed source, СКА, the contract which has signed today with the triple owner of a cup Stanley - to the attacking "New Jerseys" Sergey Brylinym, prepares for one more loud signing the player from NHL. It is a question of the 39-years Canadian forward "Rejndzhers Brendane Shenehane". The triple owner of a cup Stanley with "Detroit", Shenehan became in NHL after July, 1st beyond all bounds the free agent - that is it is free

Not with our cap situation and the way this team is shaping up he wouldn't. I would love to see him behind the bench or somewhere behind the scenes instead.

This is a non-story, IMHO. Yesterday, there was an article on the Russian site sportstand.ru (which appears to have been taken down) speculating on the fact that Shanahan could be a potential signing target for SKA, because of Shanahan's connection with current SKA coach Barry Smith, who was an assistant coach while Shanny was in Detroit. It was total speculation, and now championat.ru has picked it up and run with it. For the record, nothing in the story linked by the OP says they have actually made him a contract offer. Moroever, they say in that article that Brylin signed with SKA yesterday, while Brylin has said in an interview today that he hasn't signed with SKA yet (http://allhockey.ru/news/33228/).

I'd be absolutely shocked if Shanny went over to Russia to play.

I don't think he's going to leave his family at this stage in his career to go play in another country. I don't think he is so money hungry that he would pass up a good salary to stick around and work for the NHL or the Rangers organization while staying in NY.

Good for the Rangers. Shanny stinks. I think i saw him take one shot on goal the entire Penguins/Rangers series.

With Brylin debunking his apparent signing, I wouldn't be too quick to accept any reports or rumours, unless they come from a player or his agent.

If he goes at list he'll get a chance to see one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

I'm wondering if a lot of this is the KHL just posturing in an attempt to get more publicity for the league. Maybe get some of their young talent to commit to long-term contracts by promising that they'll be playing with huge names if they do.

If it is true, it would be a good move for Shanny.

He could compete at a high level, in a short season, with less physical contact, and wider rinks.

which mean, much faster players. have you ever seen an RSL game. those guys are all at the speed of afinogenov. Shanny would get dominated for his skating in sand style of hockey.

My translation: "SKA St Pete wants another Stanley Cup champion on its roster"

After announcing today's signing of a 3-time Stanley Cup champion and former NJ Devil Sergei Brylin, a source has reported that SKA is preparing to announce another big signing - a Canadian forward of the Rangers Brendan Shanahan.

A 3-time Stanley Cup champion with Detroit Red Wings, Shanahan has become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. According to the available info, Shanny is currently negotiating (or at least have been negotiating) a new contract with either the Rangers or the Devils. However, the asking price and, more importantly, the age are becoming major impediments to signing a contract in NHL.

Shanny is well known to the head coach of SKA - Barry Smith, with whom he has worked while playing for Detroit. Barry Smith as Scotty Bowman's assistant." And then the article is talking about Shanny's accomplishments in NHL.

I don't know how truthful the artilce is, but take it for what it's worth. And Smashley, Shanahan is not trading big lights of NY for frozen tundra, as you have kindly put it. Saint Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with classic 18th century architecture, museums, theaters, art galleries galore.

I don't buy it for a minute. Shanny has nothing else to prove by going to Russia.
