I'm not really for this or against this. Commy is a below average player that plays with a lot of heart and plays for his teammates.

So who knows...i'd rather not pay him that much, but it's not my money. I think he would be a solid 4-5-6 defenseman.

So Commodore at $3.75 a year is a bad contract but Jeff Finger @ 3.75 is a good contract? Umm...No.

I probably spoke too soon. He is a average-good player that will fit this team well. He covers his weakness by playing with heart.

He is overpaid, but I suppose on this market, it's a decent signing. NTC makes it a little less than good.

It was probably a good signing...I'm just really lukewarm on it.

Commodore was horrible in Ottawa and below average if Carolina, he was probably one of the last defensemen i wanted to sign...meh, I would rather be wrong about him, than right.

Extremely. Now all we need is a #1 defenseman and a power play qb

Someone look in the archive. I bet there's a post like this after we signed Adam Foote.

I think he was young in Carolina, and buried beneath a pretty solid core of defensemen in Ottawa. He is a gamble. Howson and Hitch wanted him, and feel its his time to emerge.

Alot of these signings are like that. Young guys Howson feels are ready to take the next big step in their careers(Tyutin, Backman, Commodore, RJU).

I don't really care what THN thinks about the moves

of the CBJ. Generally the only time they make reference to Columbus is in a negative or derogatory fashion. This doesn't even bother me either, cause I think to get respect we will have to earn it. I keep reminding myself of all those welcome to the NHL Columbus commercials in the 1st year where teams referenced making us their Biotttches... and they have for the most part.

In regards to Commodore I think we did overpay. To defend this overpayment I would add that we have been soft as butta for the better part of our existence. With Commie, Raffe, RJ and Fedor to supplement Boll and OKT, and Sestito/ Dorsett in the wings we are a pretty gritty team.

Commodore would never let a teammate get sucker punched or blindsided without some serious repercussions. With that said, it probably won't be happening as much anymore. I think Commie will earn every penny protecting the skill we will be icing in Juice, Brass, Jake, and Nik. Commie has some skill and is not as big a liability as people have said.

Is anybody surprised by this? I'm not. Howson has been saying he's going to be matched up against the opposing team's best players...ouch... 5 year deal...ouch... first two years include an NTC...ouch....

We're paying this guy like a first pairing defenseman when he's decent 5 or 6 on most teams.

For every good signing, you get some bad ones. This move has Hitch written all over it.

Aside from Umberger and Filatov, Howson hasn't made a B or better signing this offseason. Huselius was necessary because we lost Zherdev.

When Foote was here, we got exactly what we paid for. A top pairing D man who played on a woefully bad team. We also had no other place to spend the money... which means we would've given Duvie Wescott 3.8 mil/yr. Are you OK with that?

Plus, compared to what others fetched in the market, we didn't overpay for Commodore.

Compared to contracts signed at discout for players to stay at their team, yes, we got hosed. But you gotta pay to play in free agency, and everyone who wanted Defense did just that.

Still holding grudges, I see.
