Rumor: Shanahan to Habs

According to the russian press, Shanahan refused an offer from the St-Petersburg CKA because he wants to sign in Montreal.

He'd be an alright fit, but only if he's going to play on say our third line with Higgins and Chipchura.. That would probably throw Latendresse out of the lineup though, french media would have a bird.

So even the Russian press now reads Eklund??? What has the world come to......

So Laraque was fine. But Shanahan on top of that? Do we actually want to give the other teams some chance to be as fast as we are?

A year or two ago I would have jumped at the chance. I wouldn't be completely against it if the price was right and Gainey found a good way of clearing room on the roster, but I'm really not interested this time around. I don't want to see a dime taken away from what we should be saving for Sundin.

Minimum contract with incentives & your welcome to the Centennial party, should have been here 2 years ago though....

A.Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Higgins - Lapierre - S.Kostitsyn

No room and no need at this point.

He had his chance to come here, perfered the Rangers, now they don't want him anymore so he turns back to us 2 years too late just like Lapointe and Gelinas and many others.

I hate the idea of Sergei playing on the third line, he has too much offensive upside to play with a guy like Lapierre.. If the third line was Higgins-Koivu-S.Kost i'd be in heaven (by getting Sundin and having A.Tang-Sundin-Latenderesse).

Relax. Not saying you had anything to do with that. Just saying that Eklund just said the exact same thing, that Shanahan only wanted to play for the Habs or something like that. And now it comes that way with approximately the same wording. Just find that odd.

Which article was that in there, 'cause my russian is not that great....

what would he be asking for salary wise? if he realizes his career is about to be over and wants to play here for a small amount, then im all for it.

if he wants 3+ mill then no way

Some veteran leadership would be appreciated, but not needed....He better ask for 1.3 mill not a penny more...Can we make some room though? I think yes...He could be really useful during a slump and in the stanley cup run... He can be a calming presence for the youngsters...And he can teach.

So...I am not atgainst but I don't really care now...he had his chance!!!!! His wife is ok with him coming here now??? That makes no sense to me though, all the wife thing... The guys are making millions a year and yet the woman have something to say???? I would tell my wife to shut up, that I am the one making the money and she should be grateful to have such a life. I mean come on!!!! You can do whatever you want, when you want. You can take a plane whenever you want to visit and stay for as long as you please...

He make for an interesting Right handed shot option on the PowerPlay.. Something we haven't really had since Ryder was good in 06-07, it adds another option to our game plan.

I'm calm Whitesnake

But I hate rumors and I hate Eklund. Thought the info came from the St-Petersbugh CKA management.. but it seems to be from a russian rumor site which probably simply translates Eklund's ********, at least the part about Shanahan going to the Habs.

I'm happy to see that your calm.

Could you tell which article in there it was? I said that but I actually can't believe that a russian site would really translate our friend Ek.

Actually, the article cites thefourthperiod as the source but I haven't found any Shanny to the Habs rumour on the site.

If we got Sundin and he saw the commitment that the Habs are doing to win it all I think he would be a good fit at a million and the rest incentive based. He is a guy who has made his money, and he wants to win and truthfully I think he is a guy wanting to live out his dream of playing for another original six team and go out on top.

Tanguay - Sundin - Shanahan
AK - Pleks - Kovy
Higgins - Saku - SK
Laroque - Lappy - Latendresse
(spare forwards Chip, Kostopolous and Begin, unless the Greek or Begin is traded)

A much more polite version of what I was going to post.

Screw him. He had his chance to come here when we REALLY needed him and now that he can't keep up with the pace of the game and we are a much better team, he wants in? No thanks.

Ru»

That site claims that Shanahan is about to agree on an offer from the Habs.

Of course he wants to come here now that he's washed up and New York doesn't want him anymore.

Players love Montreal and Toronto when they're on the downfall of their career. Suddenly, these become the cities where they've always wanted to play.
