There's noway we can fit in both Sundin AND Shanny under the salary cap, we might have to buy out Dandenault just to make room for Sundin...I can't see Shanahan asking anything less than 3-4 mill, that's his market value anyway...So I guess it'd be a decent move if Sundin choses the Canucks...better than nothing right?

Tanguay - Sundin - Shanahan
AK - Pleks - Kovy
Higgins - Saku - SK
Laroque - Lappy - Latendresse
(spare forwards Chip, Kostopolous and Begin, unless the Greek or Begin is traded)
Thats a good looking lineup,bro

Darren McCartny looked pretty good as a Wing again after being out of the NHL and being older as well. I think Shanahan is the type of guy who knows when to hang them up because he doesn't want to look a fool. He would look good in Montreal, he could do the same type of job that Gilmour did here...Dougie stepped up as a Hab when Saku got injured and played with his heart on his sleeve, Shanny would do the same.

I'd still take him. He's tough, a big body infront of the net and still has the hands to bury the puck.

If we miss out on Sundin, I hope we turn to him.

I think so too.

For years we have been crying for a topline and topline centre. With these type of additions we would have a 1A, 1B and 1C topline...not to mention a very aggressive fourth line in the XXX L's!

I don't think there would be a real "1st" line in Montreal with all of the talent. Carbs would role his 3 lines and it would be even, some players like Mats, Kovy and Saku would get extra ice because of PP and PK...but otherwise I think it is a New Jersey system of 4 lines.

im happy with shanny if he comes .he even at 39 is a upgrade over smolinski

probably mean sundin isn't coming .

we still get a veteran leader who can bag 20 goals .

I'd rather see:

Shanahan Sundin Kovalev
Tanguay Koivu Higgins
A. Kostisyn Plekanec S. Kostitsyn
Kostopoulos Lapierre Laraque

Am I the only one to have the impression that if the Habs sign another winger it will mean Higgins will play 3rd line C ?

I could definitly see Higgins playing at C... with Sergei.. Higgins taking the faceoffs and being the defensive presence, while Sergei obviously would be the playmaker in the offensive zone.

Higgy is not good enough at C.

I thought he did a decent job last year. He obivously lacks vision, but that's why I would see him with Jr K, since he tends to play like a centerman in the O zone.

I agree. Having not played center for a few years and then having to move back to it it is very difficult to re-adjust... he looked decent in the limited time he had to switch to the old position and even though he is better suited on the wing, I think he'd do a decent job down the middle.

I'm still hoping for Sundin....

If Montreal can't land Sundin I would welcome Shanny!
But at this point Shanny has to be plan B
