I don't really think we need him. If we did sign him though hopefully it would be only for 1 year.

I agree with you on Shanahan. But Selanne I wouldn't mind that Golden Girl becoming a Hab.

i'll believe it when i see it...

yah i know he's 39. the guy can still net 20 and has the experience. but more importantly, he has tremendous value to a younger team like montreal. don't forget, shanny is big, can fight, get in front of the net; he does what it takes to win.. if he comes at a cheaper price then sign on the dotted line I say.

Makes no sense, Lats was a more productive player than him last year and for less $$$.

And with lesser linemates most of the year.

We also have not had clarification on if Lats can be sent down.... once he plays 160 nhl games he can't be sent to the AHL without clearing waivers (he won't clear waivers... there is no way)....

He has played 153 regular season games and 8 playoff games...... So do the playoff games count.

I think they do, but this hasn't been clarified for us as far as i know.

I'm not saying don't sign Shanny, cause i think he can be a great teacher for Lats.... but Lats is not going to the AHL.

I would love Shanahan. Always been a big fan, the right-handed shot is much needed, and he's a tough cookie. The Habs physical presence changes that much more with Laraque and Shanny out there. Two years ago he was on pace for 40 goals but got hurt. Last year was an off year, but the entire Rangers offence had an off year.

I assume if he comes here then Andrei Kostitsyn plays RW on another line. It's nice to have versatility, players that can shift wings if things don't work out. Combinations can be worked with at the beginning of the year, and if they don't work you know the AK - TP - AK line will do well, and Tanguay, Shanahan, Koivu are all vets who will eventually find their niche.

well this move sure eats up cap space..

you were at 49.2ish before the signing so I'm assuming that would take your cap up to 50.7ish. so 6 mill from ceiling and leave 1 mill for injuries.

5 mill on sundin?

I'm with you, the guy is class and has pride. He wouldn't keep playing if he didn'ty think he could contribute at a decent role. He wants to leave the game on good terms, not as a washed up player.

He could be a steal at a base salary with incentives.

I could definitly see Higgins playing at C... with Sergei.. Higgins taking the faceoffs and being the defensive presence, while Sergei obviously would be the playmaker in the offensive zone.
I don't mind that plan If no fronline center can be added for a reasonable price.

Lats didn't play physical or go to the net and absorb punishment in the playoffs. Shanny could teach these kids how to win and the importance/benefits of paying the price.

Van + Sundin = still far from being a contender.

46 pts > 27 pts. Both played 73 games, and Shanny is more gritty. I like Lats but for one year? Shanny > Latendresse.

Would've loved him last year or 2 years ago. Now, forget it, no sense slowing down any of our young wingers' development. No way any of them get sent down, it's not the direction we're going in.

Sundin or nothing. Shanahan you had your chance and wasted it on the Rangers.

Hm I cant say I disagree more. Why do we have to chose between Shanahan ( I refuse to give anyone a nick name until they are official habs property ) and Latendresse?
