With Fletch's moves this summer, I am really starting to think JFJ would have done a better job.

they don't have a very good defense... are you on crack?
mccabe is awful as a defenseman, kubina played well in tampa, coli is always injured, white is tiny
kaberle and finger are the only ones i'd be excited about on the backend

Gives me reason to hate the Leafs even more, but now, when we play New York, what is it going to be? Skill vs. Skill? No more real hate there? Ugh. I actually think I'm gonna be bored watching Hab/Ranger games.
Always a reason to hate the Rag$

You think Hollweg is a more effective fighter than GL?

Hollweg is definitely more effective at the attack from the rear. Some folks take a dim view on that approach.

If he's not good enough to crack that lineup, then who really cares what his name is.

Well Fletcher addressed a need at least.

He addressed the need for another Kovalev punching bag now that Tucker's gone.

What most other fans of teams dont get is that the leafs would love to finish dead last in the NHL. All Fletcher is doing is adding some grit to make next season a little more exciting for the fans

bingo. Laraque is friendly. he encites little to no fear into the opposition. he's a great fighter and a pretty good player too, but don't expect what you're not going to get.

But you know deep down inside that they will likely finish last and lose the lottery and still not get the brass ring. The entertainment factor wears out around that point

I don't understand the deal because as bad as the Leafs lineup could be next year, I really don't see how Hollweg deserves to be in their lineup...

Tlusty-Steen-Ponikarovsky
Blake-Antropov-Kulemin
Hagman-Stajan-Mayers
Williams-Moore-Bell/Ondrus/Grabovski/Newbury
Hollweg

On that fourth line I think Moore might be the only guy "penciled in" as he played very well down the stretch and plays a solid 2-way NHL game. That still leaves 6 guys fighting for 2 spots and everyone except Ondrus can claim to deserve it more than Hollweg, especially Bell and Williams.

I am sure that Cherry is going to be really happy about that acquisition. too bad they could not have gotten Ruutu as well

PS: Gosh I hope I spelled Ruutu right. I hate having the spelling cop on my tail

I think we're gonna see a less forgiving Laraque this year. Maybe its wishfull thinking, but I think Laraque will feel the pressure from the home town fans to throw it down more and be more of a protecter of his teamates. I think Laraque is full aware of this and wouldn't have signed here otherwise.

We'll see.

Besides, we all saw what he did to our poor rookie Archer this year in Montreal. So he's not THAT nice.

You're setting yourself up for a big disappointment if that's what you think will happen. Laraque is a class guy all the way, and has stated before he really doesn't like fighting. He'll go with guys like Colton Orr, Riley Cote, Chara, and maybe even Lucic if Lucic wants to challenge him, but he rarely does much to anyone who won't step up to the challenge. The only way this may change is if the instigator rule disappears since we haven't really seen how he'd change his game if his biggest excuse that he uses all the time disappears.

And who can forget the notorious Jeff Finger!

Its too bad the Leafs couldnt trade to get Adam Foote, you could have had a Foote-Finger pairing at defense.

Seeing how much hate you guys have for him, it's making me rethink my position regarding Hollweg.
If he annoys you guys that much he may be of use to us.

Go forth Hollweg, go forth and annoy

People keep saying this like its a bad thing. I don't see people slamming Boogard or Parros for only fighting with other heavyweights, so why does Laraque get slack for seeminlgy doing what he's supposed to do.

He doesn't ennoy us, he entertains us by how bad of a hockey player he is.

HE will annoy YOU soon enough though.

Because the thought of a ticking time bomb that no one wants to be near is verrrryy very appealing.. but I still still if someone were to cheap shot Koivu or Markov or someone, Georges would feel inclined to see just how sorry the cheap-shotter is
