The progression of Gorges, O'Byrne, and Komisarek tells me he's doing a good job.
You don't have to necessarily have ever played the position to be able to coach it.
Jarvis was a pretty good defensive forward.
But with all the good d-men prospects coming our way, knowing all the effort that the scouting staff has put in order to get us some D's, I wouldn't risk anything and for a D coach. Whoever it is I don't care, but the guy just needs to be a good teacher à la Joel Bouchard.

Probably matters more who their coach is in Hamilton than Montreal, from a development point of view. I agree with Beaker that Jarvis seems to be doing a great job with the guys in Montreal already, why mess with what's working?

Before talking about O'Byrne's progression, we'll have to wait and see. I do agree as far as Komisarek and maybe Gorges though for Josh, it more has to do with icetime than anything else. He was already playing top minutes in San Jose.
So because I'm not too sure that it's "working", I would be encline to add another member.
I agree as far as Hamilton is concerned though. 'Cause as soon as guys like Beauchemin and Hainsey left, they seemed to have evolve way more outside of here than in the organization.
Larry Robinson....but he would most likely only coach if he was the head coach. He would be the perfect defensive coach though....IMO. He could teach our defencmen how to play good defence and to play tough too.
I would not make any sort of coaching change right now unless one of the current members of the staff leaves. The team had a solid season last year so why mess with something that is working.

If a perfect fit is available then go on if not then pass... were fine like that.
I don't think we need one full time in the NHL, but I like the way Philadelphia hired Desjardins, and I think we could do the same thing with Bouchard or Gervais. Go see junior, NCAA, USHL, Europe and AHL D-Men. Help them with some ideas and commentaries. Work on-ice with them in training camp, rookie camp, etc. I think it's a good way to bring a guy Bouchard in the organisation. I think he can become a heck of a coach.
The habs need to keep it like it is, that is ex players behind the Bench. Canadiens is all about history and it needs to start behind the Bench (noticed how things have been continuously improving since we dropped the QJMHL coaches idea?).
If they go with the non ex pro route it better be with a staff member that's been there since early 1990's.
Not to mention Don Lever. He's been producing good defensemen for us for years.
I think we're fine with Lever handing prospect development, and Jarvis handling NHL development.
Exactly. Lever was a good two way player when he played the game, and he has done well in developing players in Buffalo as an Assistant Coach and Head Coach in Rochester and Hamilton.
Assistant is the other Ron Wilson as mcphee thought.

I think that when other teams are gaining the Habs zone, the defense backs in way too far. The D is always at the faceoff circle, giving away 20 feet of free space in the zone. I think it's better to pressure oncoming forwards at the blueline and use the offside rule to your advantage.
