Let's Build Next Years Team - Second Line Center

Im sorta ripping off flylines yearly prospect post, and kinda building a twist around it. Were going to vote on the lines for next year. Im going to go position by position, and were going to have a vote for every single player, even the more obvious choices till we fill out an entire roster.

The assumptions here are the team carrying 2 goalies, 1 backup defenseman, and 2 backup forwards. The first few obvious prospects will also be listed in every vote, along with an "other" option. This is if you feel another player not listed is a better choice than any of the other players.

The Roster As It Stands Now:

Markus Naslund (52.83%) - Scotty Gomez (91.67%) - Nikolai Zherdev (78.02%)
Second Line Left Wing - Second Line Center - Second Line Right Wing
Third Line Left Wing - Third Line Center - Third Line Right Wing
Fourth Line Left Wing - Fourth Line Center - Fourth Line Right Wing
First Backup Forward
Second Backup Forward

First Pairing Left Defenseman - First Pairing Right Defenseman
Second Pairing Left Defenseman - Second Pairing Right Defenseman
Third Pairing Left Defenseman - Third Pairing Right Defenseman
Backup Defenseman

Starting Goalie
Backup Goalie

Drury... Don't think this should be much debate.

I gotta wait until I see how the new players work out before I commit Drury or Dubi to the wing. Drury is our 2nd line center as of right now.

I Agree 100%

Except, he should be on the top line LW with Gomez and Zherdev.

Naslund and Zherdev should be split up.

Drury - Gomez - Zherdev
Dawes - Dubinsky - Naslund

I'm actually leaning towards Dubinsky with Drury on the wing right now.

I think we'll be a team of Gomez, Drury, Dubinsky and Betts down the middle next season.

drury, i don't think he'd get moved to wing because he's a big part of winning face offs.

there better not be a poll for starting and backup goalie.

Well, there could be a poll about how many games you think Lundqvist should start.

Drury.

I don't like the notion of putting Drury on the wing (especially the right side, since AFAIK he has never played there).

Maybe someone from the Avs or Flames fanbase can clear it up, but has Drury even played the left side since he was pretty much in Dubinsky's shoes: slotted behind Sakic and Forsberg on the depth chart?

It just seems like a square peg / round hole situation to me.

Gomez-Naslund-Zherdev on the same line is pointless

If Gomez and Zherdev do end up on a line together, I see the other winger being an odd man out of sorts unless he's willing to dig for scraps around the net...
enter petr prucha...at least he's willing to take the beating going to the net, and we all know he's capable of picking up goals around the net..maybe its not ideal, but naslund would be wasted on this line.
In order to maximize our skill we should go with a good pair plus on each line..

gomez and zherdev plus prucha
Drury and naslund plus korpi/cally
dubinsky an dawes plus fritsche
betts and voros plus sjo/orr/riss depending on the situation one could be gone

***just as a note, I think these lines are also defensively sound.
Any lack of defense on the first line can be made up for by the lines ability to control the puck between gomez and zherdev. I admit prucha is not a strong defender, but he does hustle on the backcheck, this line would be similar to a nylander/straka/jagr combo
dru and cally/korpi are all defensively sound
dubi and fritsche are sound defensively as well

I'd rather put Dubi with a guy like Fritsche. and Put Nazzy with Dru and Prucha. Nazzy will not perform with Dubi and Dawes.

Your first line would be sooooooo soft... It's not even funny!

If you wanna put Z and Nazzy together, you gotta put them with Dubi... You need someone to go in the corner and win battle.

Split your scoring and start with Nazzy-Dubi-Z...

im just curious, when did it become necessary to have a big huge behemoth on every line?

I coulda sworn the pens made the finals with crosby, dupuis, and hossa, not exactly any tough guys there, 90% of the top lines in the NHL dont have a big bruising player on it, why do the Rangers suddenly need to have this? weve got plenty of tough nosed players in orr, voros, dubinsky, and callahan. thats enough. you guys are seriously overestimating the importance of being a ruthless murder you hockey club. looking at the lineup, yeah, were soft, but no more so than most hockey clubs out there today.

The game has changed, its time we recognize this.
