As a person under 30, who sometimes takes the years in front of me for granted, and as a parent who has two beautiful children who's futures I can't help but dream about, it's a sobering reminder about life and life-events that we don't often understand.

Not to get into religion, people can apply this however they wish, but the hardest part about someone leaving this world is that we think about everything WE are going to miss. For me it's always been hard to remind myself of the joy and happiness that person is experiencing in Heaven, because I find myself dwelling on everything I am going to miss. But in the end that belief of Heaven always wins out. Doesn't make the pain go away, but it certainly helps wounds heal.

I am really sorry for your loss. That is way to young of age to pass away, especially from surgical complications. My heart goes out to his family and friends. We have enough tragedy in this world without compliations in the medical field.

Even more incentive to root for our Rangers. We know he'll be up there helping the blue shirts out.

sorry for your loss. As a kid turning 17 in about 50 days....its just scary. Really puts things into perspective. The simplest joys in my life like the Rangers and Mets can be taken away from me so quickly, but are nothing compared to losing my life.

Not that it means much, but my condolences go out to the family and friends.

Hate to see someone die at such a young age, especially a true die-hard Ranger fan.

There was a nice article in the SI Advance about him yesterday.
This is so sad to see a promising life cut so short.

I could not go, too much for me. I was told he had a Shanahan jersey hanging above on his coffin door, and had rangers flowers.. Rangers Red White and Blue until his last dying day.

Its really terrible to think about what his family and friends must be going through. Its so sad to see one of your peers life end so suddenly. It really puts things into perspective. I know there are alot of younger guys on here and it shows how this could happen to anyone of us that posts on this messageboard. The best way to think of it is that he will have the best seat in the house at MSG from now on. RIP Matt. Hopefully the Rangers will dedicate their Cup run to Matthew. Sorry for your loss King Henrik.

Scoliosis here. I thought Kyphosis was twisting of the spine because I know Scoliosis is curvature of the spine...

This was such a sad story. I didnt really know matt but im friends with his ex gf , she was heartbroken when she found out. It was so sad. My friend Jordan was at the wake last night and was telling me something like Renney wrote a letter to him. Which is extremly thoughtful on his part. Once again im sorry man I hope you feel better with time.

Scoliosis is curvature to the left/right.... Kyphosis is curvature front/back.... But yeah, worst surgery ever... 9 days in the hospital with only basic cable to watch = hell

KH,

I'm so very sorry to hear about this loss. It's tragically young. I lost my brother at 18 a couple of years ago from complications from surgeries and treatment.

Hopefully, they're somewhere watching NYR together now.

Tragic, not much more I can say. It should be a reminder to us all that life here is precious. Respect it and others. My neighbor checked out about 2 hours ago, but he had a long life fortunately.
