Damn, Habs should of signed him. He would be a nice source of income for the provincial government. Maybe Habs could have gotten a tax credit for signing Jagr.

I hope for him it's behind him now. The mafia might force him to play so they can get their money back though.

Yeah... fat chance, the provincial government is way too cheap with professional sports... err, I mean, with about everybody except immigrants (just stating fact), to give this present to the Habs, they would probably say 'okay, here's a tax relief for all the $$$ Jagr spends in the casinos, but we've also ammended a new tax rule for having professional players wearing the number 68 as it's too close to 67, we will require a 5% on Habs total revenues"

ah, but then the Habs would get Jagr to wear number 86 and then who would be laughing?

Because he financed many business interests, he's got a pretty big net worth, and debts related to his business, the gambling thing was small potatoes compared to his stockpile of cash...

Tax on Jersey numbers representing the rookie championship of Patrick Roy...

I thought he was near bankruptcy?

Anywho, none of this applies to Sundin who is apparently in very nice financial shape.

Sources continue to tell me that the Montreal Canadiens are leading the way for Mats, so much so that although they won't always call him by name, "waiting on a big player before we can make that decision" is something that several people have told me they have discussed with the Habs.

There is however another growing theory, brought up by a source in Western Canada yesterday, but also gaining momentum all over the league....."
Well if the Habs are his more than probable destination they have laverage so if I were them I would put out an ultimatum to him. You say to him"we're letting a window of two weeks for you to reach a decision and if you have not made any after this, we'll know where we stand and will be able to do the moves we have to to be ready for our next season".

They did that. On July 1st. Hossa signed in Detroit.

So here we are. Face to face with our destiny.

I thought it was one of his many business interests.. not personal bankruptcy.

Anyway, while trying to find the lowdown on MJ's financial woes, i found this pretty amusing conspiracy theory on MJ's career... beware NBC and the NBA... mwhouhahahaha

If you liked Jordan and basketball, this is a must read, will give you plenty of laughs by the time you reach the conclusion of this piece :

http://www.disinfo.com/archive/pages...pg1/index.html

And from what I've read so far, I don't think MJ is near bankruptcy on the personal level :

http://www.forbes.com/lists/2007/53/...rdan_UGGU.html

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...030401193.html

His business interests seem pretty healthy.

It's like playing a tennis ball against a brick wall, which can be fun. It can be fun, but it's not a game

It can be a game if you do it with someone else.

Why put pressure? Why risk this when we have all our time? We won't sign anyone else anyway, albeit maybe a 7th D. Sundin reacts badly to this kind of ultimatum, and I think Gainey has been wise to wait it out and be extra gentle with him.

While it's all just rumours, I've heard the guy has massive, massive gambling debts. In the millions of dollars. These casinos can load shark a $500,000 debt into a $10,000,000 debt in a just a few years.
