An easier way would be to kill Shanahan, that way we're all happy..

God, don't let this happen...

No PK please. If you re-sign Shanny you do so with the understanding that he plays third line minutes (10-12 min) and on the PP (4-6) only. I don't want to see him killing penalties next year. He needs to conserve his energy for later in the season because he has disappeared in the second half the last two years.

It wouldn't be too bad if he came back for under 2 million, provided some veteran leadership and experience and could probably manage 15-20 goals. It would also help if he didn't mind being an occasional healthy scratch for someone like Korpikoski or Fritsche. He could still be a solid PK'er as well as someone who can score in shootouts.

Wouldn't mind him on the 3rd line, but wouldn't he take Korpy's, Prucha's, or Anismov's chances away?

If shanny does comeback i can see a lineup of

Dawes-Gomez-Zherdev
Nazzy-Dru-Prucha
Shanny-Dubi-Fritsche
Sjo-Betts-Cally
XX-Orr-Voros

Staal-Rozsival
Redden-Girardi
Mara-Kalinin
Potter?

I don't know why so many are against bringing Shanny back in a 3rd line/PP role. The guy's legs might be slow, but he's still got a booming shot and he's a fantastic role model for younger players on the team.

I would LOVE a third line of Shanahan-Dubi-Fritsche.

I am ALL FOR bringing Shanahan back to play the 3rd line and PP.

I believe that Shanahan will be MORE productive on a third line with Dubi because he won't get exhausted so easily.

That could be an explosive third line and one that plays a different style than our top two lines.

Dubi really got a lot out of being on a line with Jagr. Shanahan has a lot to teach and from what I've seen Dubi is a sponge around HOFers.

If Shanny is re-signed I wish that we didn't have to wait months to find out what Renney plans to do with him. I suppose perhaps the contract would hint at expectations.

Thats it. thats the end of the discussion. His legs are slow.

Look at the team the rangers have constructed. a team based on speed, puck pursuit, and pushing te puck up the ice fast. you dont need a geriatric hall of famer slowing down the entire club.

NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!

Sign Shanahan and make him a first or second winger.

We'll bring him back in a limited role! Power Play and 3rd line! Ugh, this sounds like Messier's return all over again. These things rarely work out with rapidly declining former superstars. I think and hope that saying goodbye to Jagr and Avery means we are also saying goodbye to Shanahan.

Well there goes the idea of Drury being captain this year. If Shanny is brought back he will be captain. If he is used like TB used Andreychuk and he makes what most 4th liners make i'm ok with bringing him back 1 more year. With this news about Shanny, and the Sundin talk, i'm starting to wonder about this "new direction"

that doesnt mean anything. the rangers may rather a long time captain in Drury and a good Assistant in Shanny. and I dont think Shanny wants the C as he will retire next season.

While shanny isn't at his precollision status... if he doesn't come back in '08-09, I'm totally going to miss that on-one-knee-fist-pump.

How am i going to be disapointed, i was just saying what i think. honestly i couldnt care-less who the captain of the team is. we did well when there was no captain in 2005-06. Im just saying i think Drury will be given the "C", right now its Drury and Gomez's team not Shanahans.

Yeah, he was a bang-up captain with Hartford. All that character and heart before requesting his ticket out of town a year later. Real stand-up guy.

Yeah i agree. you can really never tell. The devils were ranked in the 10-12 spot last year and made it to the number 4 so you really cant tell. Even at the beginning of the year you cant tell. Just look at ottawa. they were like 16-4 there first 20 games and look how they turned up.

I'd rather have Jason Strudwick, and I am no fan of Struds...
