According to insiders, Ottawa would trade netminder Martin Gerber and defenceman Andrej Meszaros to Los Angeles, the Kings would move 20-year-old centre Anze Kopitar to Chicago and the Blackhawks would propel goalie Nikolai Khabibulin and either of young blueliners Brent Seabrook or Cam Barker to the Senators

That... is a ****ing joke. No big players are going to be moved in the Ottawa/Chicago/Los Angeles rumours.

See Getzlaf thread......Those types of guys, centermen on top of that, will not be traded unless there's a big overpayment...

The worst part is that it solves absolutely nothing. Ottawa with Khabi would be terrible, LA doesn't really help its cap issues and Chicago just laughs its way to the bank. Absolutely terrrible.

I really really don't see Kopitar moving anywhere. He's their building block on offense.

They have a ton of bluechip dmen and a potential #1 goalie in Bernier. I don't see what LA could want.

That rumour makes NO SENSE...I read it in the paper this morning and couldn't stop laughing

There's no reason for the Kings to move Kopitar...especially not for a return of Martin Gerber and Andrej Meszaros! lol

Alexander Frolov I could see being involved in that move...but even then

The article says win-win-win for all parties, but neglects to explain how LA wins by dealing away its top center for a goalie and a defenseman, with goalie Bernier ready to make the jump...

But again, what would be your definition of overpayment?

And none of it looks at LA's cap floor issues.

The whole reasoning to acquiring Khabibulin to Los Angeles is because of his "unmovable" contract, which LA should swallow to help bring them closer to the cap floor. Gerber is only a $3.7M cap hit. Khabi is a whopping $6.5M. LA would only need to add a few more million to get to their floor, instead of still being in the hole when adding Gerber. It's not like they also get Mesz and give him $8M for the year.

On another note, anybody know the penalty for failing to reach the cap floor?

I believe it is the same as being over, you forfeit games until you are under which I would imagine the NHL would not allow a team to do so they force teams to waive players.

Depends what we'd have to give up.

I'd be willing to give up Plekanec + Higgins + O'Byrne.

I'm not sure if they'd consider that though.

If I was the Kings Kopitar would be untoucheable...if Lombardi makes that deal or anything close he should be fired immediately!
