Dawes re-signed - $587,500/1YR

Dellapina in his Blueshirts Blog

Quote:
The club will announce sometime today that it has re-signed Nigel Dawes to a one-year contract in the $600,000 range. That and the fact that at least one of the bottom-six-type forwards currently under contract canít be on the team when the season starts means the Rangers will be at least $1 million under the Salary Cap.

He talks about Shanahan in his entry

http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/rangers/

600k or so for Dawes is a good thing.

Good news. He'll probably make quite a bit more next year.

Sweeeeeet, nice and cheap!.....I see Dawes as a top 6 this yr

Not sure what he is saying in the article,,,,,,,,to mean it is freaking obvious who makes the team and who does not at this pt

Tell me if I am wrong people.........and don't get picky with the positions and lines

C
Gomez, Drury, Dubinsky, Betts
Naslund, Dawes, Fritsche, Rissmiller, Voros
Zherdev, Prucha,Callahan, Sjostrom, Orr

That is 14 forwards which is normal

G

D
Rozsival, Redden, Staal, Kalinen, Mara, Girardi,Pock
7 Dmen

There is your 23

and yea they have guys with great talent in Hartford

Korpikoski, Byers, Moore, Parenteau, Jessiman, Aminisev, Jamtin
Sanguinetti, Potter, Sauer,etc

I'm pretty sure Nigel was qualified for more. Good move by the Rangers brass to sign him for less

Let's not get ahead of ourselves Vitto. Someone can really impress in camp and make the Roster on day one (possibly Korpikoski?)

I just hope Renney doesn't tell him to stop scoring and just hold the puck.

The price is right!

I think Dawes can score 20+ on the second line when given proper ice time.

wow... great signing... this should also eliminate the need for Prucha... he is now definately way overpaid and we need some cap room.

edit: guess not after I read the article... now I really wonder what Sather might be thinking.

yea ur right and I think he actually deserves it BUT with all the signings I doubt it happens.......if he does that is awesome ................as for Prucha just being dumped I doubt it......I mean it could happen but why..............people give up on him too much.........last yr he didnt get ice time in the same situations and he got hurt................the guy gives his all.....he gets knocked down alot but gets right back up/...........I like the kid and he is still young

i think he can score a lot more than 20....especially if we turn into an attacking type team.

my guess? if top two lines, he will get 50 points.....25-25 at least imo

$600k?

Wow......

wasn't he making near max entry level beforehand? Which is more than $600k? - I have a feeling he was making more than $600k....

Regardless, that's an awesome deal if correct.

What a bargain......

Prucha expendable huh? Or is it Dawes who is easily packaged now?

Ah the possibilities

He made $475k last year, but his cap hit was $364k due to not being called up for the entire season.

Why get rid of Prucha when the chance is there that he'll score 20 or so again given the ice-time he so desperately needs is at hand this year?

Yes, he's being paid $1.6 - but we're not exactly shedding for obvious reasons. We are under the cap and we're fine with it. (1) of Rissmiller or Voros will be off the team, and that's even more salary shred.

I say keep Prucha, and get the hell away from Shanahan. Stay young, quick, and fiesty, and do what you can to entertain us fans.

Thanks Forechecker. Could of sworn he was making near $800k. Still, for someone who scored near 15 goals and was a productive player for the majority of his time here, a $125k raise is nothing short of great for the team, and not so great for Dawesy .

My only concern is the years of the deal. I wanted at least 2 years for him.

That doesn't make any sense... why would he signed a 1 year offer for less money than what his 1 year QO was? It must have been his QO.

maybe he wanted more money, and for less years than the initial offer, so we gave him a 1 year deal to prove his worth when on the team the whole year.....

i guarantee that if by the deadline, dawes is outplaying prucha, you will see prucha traded and dawes resigned for 1 mill + a year....

Pretty sure all QO's are 1 year offers though...

b/c there a chance he won't score 20, he is a redundant part, we already have enough small guys on the team that serve more of a purpose (Smurf 1 & 2, Cally, Dawes), he cannot stay on his skates, he makes absolutely nobody on the ice better.

I lied, the QO was for 522K. A good deal nonetheless.
