Let's Build Next Years Team - Second Line Left Wing

Im sorta ripping off flylines yearly prospect post, and kinda building a twist around it. Were going to vote on the lines for next year. Im going to go position by position, and were going to have a vote for every single player, even the more obvious choices till we fill out an entire roster.

The assumptions here are the team carrying 2 goalies, 1 backup defenseman, and 2 backup forwards. The first few obvious prospects will also be listed in every vote, along with an "other" option. This is if you feel another player not listed is a better choice than any of the other players.

The Roster As It Stands Now:

Markus Naslund (52.83%) - Scotty Gomez (91.67%) - Nikolai Zherdev (78.02%)
Second Line Left Wing - Chris Drury (54.48%) - Second Line Right Wing
Third Line Left Wing - Third Line Center - Third Line Right Wing
Fourth Line Left Wing - Fourth Line Center - Fourth Line Right Wing
First Backup Forward
Second Backup Forward

First Pairing Left Defenseman - First Pairing Right Defenseman
Second Pairing Left Defenseman - Second Pairing Right Defenseman
Third Pairing Left Defenseman - Third Pairing Right Defenseman
Backup Defenseman

Starting Goalie
Backup Goalie

Dawes. Gah, must resist posting same arguments for balanced scoring all over again....

Chris Drury... still think Dubi should be second line center.

Since my personal choice of playing Dawes with Gomez is gone, im going with Dawes here, even though i HATE the way Dawes play with Drury, i dont think it makes sense putting him on the 3rd line with (likely) Dubinsky. Korpikoski would be an interesting choice on the Right side though... i guess thatll have to wait till tomorrow.

I like Dawes and Drury together. I saw them building chemistry as the year went on.

I wouldnt mind Zherdev with them because hes the guy who can carry the puck and also set either of those two up.

But Dawes has to be in this slot any way you cut it.

Plus he just signed an awesome deal for the team. Give him the minutes now.

It will be interesting to see how everything shapes up after this.

Gotta be Dawes here. Even though I wanted different lines, these are slotting in exactly the same as I originally planned it on NHL 08 lol. Not sure about real life of course but Dawes-Drury-Prucha never scores for me lol

I agree, I think Gomez and Dawes play great together. I wish last year the line of Dawes-Gomez-Shanahan stayed together for longer and from the beginning when they were tearing it up in the preseason.

Why was that combo so bad?
I'm not arguing, just curious to what you saw that I didn't.

I dunno if its as much about balancing scoring, as it is about balancing styles. I just think Naslund would probably be better suited with Drury, and Dawes better suited with Gomez.

Oh well.

Because Dawes became a playmaker more than a goal scorer, and i dont think thats taking full advantage of his greatest asset, and thats scoring goals. With a passer like Gomez, youre really matching 2 very complimentary playing styles. Drury on the other hand is not a very good passer, and is a much better goal scorer, especially off of 1-timers and goalmouth scrambles (and tips). That doesnt mesh with Dawes' more off the rush, and finesse game.

Well if that doesn't cry out for a Korpedo on the right wing...

Well, im thinking korpedo on the right would work more with dawes' speed game. Hes got speed and dangle ability, and while hes not exactly a playmaker, i think he can keep up.

Im not enamored with the idea, i just think it would be interesting. In the end i think its likely we'll see the 2nd line in this poll become dawes drury and prucha, which i REALLY dont like. i dont want both dawes and prucha on the same line....EVER

Same with me...Dubi will end being the 2nd line center. Actually, I'm thinking top line will be Drury/Gomez/Naslund, with Dawes/Dubi/Zherdev on the 2nd line. Dawes and Dubi actually showed some chemistry in the few games they played together.

Voted Korpedo. I loved his speed and the way he went to the net against Pitt.

Why is Naslund a lock for 1st LW? Was there a poll for that or am I just a little late?
