Sjo & Rangers still negotiating

Forward Freddie Sjostrom's qualifying offer was extended past yesterday's 5 p.m. deadline to Aug. 4. "We're still negotiating," Sjostrom said in an email late yesterday. No word from Nigel Dawes, but I believe his offer was extended as well.

In the light of the Dawes deal does anyone think that Freddie is worth the money that he wants?, for one point every 7 games I think he's expendable, it's just a matter if Slats signs him to trade him or lets him walk imho.

I think Sjostrom is gone, than there is another almost $900k cleared cap space.

According to Zipay, the ongoing negotiations are about a multi-year deal.

(I was initially mixed up, the Freddie Sjostrom negotiations are apparently about more than one year).
This would explain why they are still talking without drawing the inference that he's making crazy money demands. He may well still be back (I would love him on the 4th at the right price).

That would be fair in light of Dawes's contract. However, I wouldn't mind if he was paid a bit more, seeing as though he still brings a bit more physicality and excels in his role as a 4th liner. I'm a fan of his and hope he can be a fixture on the new and improved 4th line for years to come.

I believe that he wants more than the 10% raise he received with his $880,000 qualifying offer, which is way too much if you consider the Dawes deal.

I hope he stays but he needs the Rangers more than the Rangers need him.

Two things working in Sjo's favor:

1. He's Henrik's buddy.

2. He's the only thing preventing people from saying Slats gave "blue chip prospect" Al Montoya for absolutely nothing.

he will be back.....i think sjostrom will be a good player when he finally develops....i think he is a late bloomer and with some confidence and ice time i think he could be a 50 point player with great pk ability

Rangers shouldn't make any concessions ....Give him a take it or leave it lowest possible offer...The guy offers nothing but speed and we have 4th liners/black aces like him up the yin yang...And no way do you give him two years...not with the yougsters cprobably being ready in 2009-2010

the thing is, sjostrom has been in the league for 4 years, so im sure he just wants to get an increase in pay, and have a longer deal so he can stay somewhere for a while

And the award for least understood on NYR goes to: Sjostrom!

I'm not saying he's a first line, 100pt guy. But anyone who thinks he 'fits' the fourth line is out of their mind. He needs some time on the second line to break out, and I can most definitely see a 50-60 pt player on the PP and PK.

why should a guy who has scored about 2 goals in his last 50 games get a sniff at 2nd or 3rd line? ANd please don't blame it on his last 12 linemates or so... 4th line (and some PK)and black ace is his level ....The guy is as big a black hole of offense then Marcel Hossa...And like Hossa, he Has some skills but has no clue how to use them...

Darth Sather is going to cut him loose. Deal on the table take it or leave it.

Freddy hasn't been paying attention?

Hossa was just awful, IMO. Even when given golden opportunities, he failed to finish anywhere near consistently. Sjostrom, on the other hand, seems to capitalize well on what good chances he gets (which, whether you want to admit it or not, are tough to come by playing with Orr, Betts, or Hollywood). I'd be really interested to see how he does with 3rd-4th line guys who are actually capable of scoring. I bet he'd suprise a lot of people. His hardworking, blue collar-ish game is backed up well by his strong skillset, and I bet he could wind up being very productive....
