Sorry but we overpaid for Miettinen, I don't know why either. Had only 4 more goals than Veilleux (12 total) in his entire career.

Why? We needed an upgrade in the bottom 6. Did we overpay? No. That was market value. It's only overpaying compared to non-market value contracts.

A friend of mine that is an avid Minnesota Wild fan calls him "Veilleuseless". So I think it is just Stephane and his Mom that think he is worth the money they are asking.

But what do we base his market value on?

If we base Veilleux's market value on Miettinen, he's worth around 1.5 million. Less points but more grit. And four less goals than Miettinen each year.

Vancouver should take him just so Minnesota can use him to kill us.

Granted, the Nolan and Miettinen are overpayments, but in this UFA market, its not a terrible overpayment.

However, the Nick Schultz contract is considered a great contract amongst Wild fans so I have no idea what your talking about

Veilleux is the only player on the Wild who actually plays and hits anyone. Seriously.

Yes, he's probably very easily replaced, but the Wild are really starting to come off as stupid and mean this offseason.

Who knows if he's just squabbling for extra dollars or if he's been unjustly lowballed by a historically frugal team

Maybe it's just you, your mom, your "avid Minnesota Wild fan's" mom, and he himself, that share that opinion.

wow are people serisouly acting like this is a loss?

this is a move made to open a spot for Clutterbuck or Gillies. Both would easily replace his production and physicalness if not add to that

According to the Wild beat writer, no one claimed Veilleux.

Wild left wing Stephane Veilleux has cleared waivers, according to two sources, despite only a $15,000 pickup fee.

Veilleux asked me yesterday whether I thought he’d be claimed. I told him if this was the middle of the season, there’s no doubt in my mind he’d be snatched up. However, I told him I have my doubts now because of his contract situation.

After talking to a number of people the last 24 hours, I really have my doubts now.

And quite frankly, this is why you need an agent.

Remember, Veilleux is a restricted free agent. He’s one year from unrestricted free agency. Any team that claims Veilleux would want to make sure it can sign him long-term.

Well, say you were interested in Veilleux during this 24-hour waiver period, who do you call to make sure you can sign Veilleux long-term? He has no agent!

And here’s the added component. Veilleux’s arbitration hearing is Monday. Each side must exchange their arbitration briefs 48 hours prior, or in this case, Friday (tomorrow).

RDS is reporting that there was 2 teams interested but since he fired his agent, they couldn't negociate a contract because they couldn't join him so they decided not to claim him haha, poor kid.

So are teams not allowed to contact him personally as it would be tampering, or do they just not want to talk contract to somebody that isn't an agent?
