Our pre-season schedule is brutal:

The Canadiens will play nine preseason games between September 22 and October 4, including five (5) games at the Bell Centre, as the team will host Ottawa, Florida, Detroit, Boston and Minnesota. Preseason games will be also be played in Halifax (September 22 vs Boston), in Roberval, Quebec featuring the Hockeyville promotion (September 23 vs Buffalo), in Detroit (September 24) and in Ottawa (September 27).

From canadiens.com.

9 games in 13 days.

Not that unusual.... plenty of bodies to rotate through the lineup and at least 4 goalies to start with....

Its not that big a deal.

This is good man. We have a lot of prospects to split time and get a good look at them. Also helps to build character and chemistry early in the season, most teams only play 5 or 6 preseason games. I hope they are offering free preseason games on the internet again.

Don't expect the Koivu, Kovalev, Markov's and Prices to play in more than 4 or 5 of those pre-season games.

And the travel isn't that bad... Roberval, Halifax, Ottawa, and even Detroit isn't that far. I'm pretty sure Detroit is in the same time zone.

It's brutal if you have a club that is basically set...like ours will likely be. It's not like we have 5 spots open...there's really no need for such a long pre-season for this club this year. What exactly is there to determine other than possible line combos?

Players like Pacioretty, Maxwell, D'Agostini, Carle, Valentenko, White, etc better be playing in at least 5 of those 9 games. They aren't even playing for a spot on the club, basically just playing to determine who will be higher on the organization's depth chart for this season.

some sort of losing streak dating back to the middle ages. Legend has it that it might even predate Christ being born. Basically, Montreal has lost the ability to win on that day.

Sweet!

Hopefully I can make the trip up to Edmonton for the Feb 11 game as my buddy is a die-hard Oilers fan but it might be difficult.

Friday home games

While I was looking for a road trip to see the habs play I noticed there are no home games on Fridays and apparently there hasn't been one since at least the 01-02 season. How come?

I'm an out of towner so excuse the more than likely dumb question

I think most Canadian teams rarely play on Fridays, to tell you the truth. For some reason, back to back games that are around Saturday, go Saturday, Sunday, instead of Saturday being the 2nd half of it.

and don't we always find a way to lose these first saturday games in toronto?...well this year is gonna take a pretty big screwup :p

also, we have a sunday night game against the canes on December 21st...I reckon that is quite rare, we never play on sunday nights...

And we definitely do have a tougher schedule this year, it''s not gonna be easy reaching last year's point total but it's within reason...At least our schedule to finish off the season is extremely tough, that will definitely get the boys prep for playoffs...

We do play sunday nights, just not very often...maybe once or twice a year.
