I would have posted this into some other forum on this board, but I don't think anyone would help me as it is very special to quebec.
I would like to see a good french movie ( old/ new, does not matter) and I would like to get the recommendation of someone in here. I used to follow french movies alot before 2002, and then I kind of left it ( damn university and work). When I mean french, mostly from france, but if you got a good one from Quebec go ahead.
I saw :
La fille sur le pont
Le fabuleux destin damelie poulin
-Mémoires Affectives
-Les Boys (only the first one, the others suck hard)
-Congorama
-La Moitié gauche du frigo
-La Grande Séduction
-Les Invasions barbares
-Camping sauvage
-C.R.A.Z.Y.
-L'Audition
-Un dimanche à Kigali
-Les 3 p'**** cochons
-Cruising Bar
-Karmina
...
Le Samouraï, Jean-Pierre Melville; Le dîner de cons, Francis Veber; Week-end, Jean-Luc Godard; Ridicule, Patrice Leconte; Flandres, Bruno Dumont; Play Time, Jacques Tati; Les Diaboliques, Henri-Georges Clouzot; Pickpocket, Robert Bresson.
As far as Québec films are concerned, try these :
Mémoires Affectives, Francis Leclerc; Pour la suite du monde, Pierre Perrault; Congorama, Philippe Falardeau.
Wide ranging and a variety of comedies and/or dramas.
Le Diner des Cons - one of the funniest I have ever seen (any language)
Les Vacances de M.Hulot and Mon Oncle (both Jacques Tati)
A Bout du Souffle (Breathless)
Red, White and Blue Trlogy - Kieslowski
Algiers - Pontecorvo
Le Samourai - Melville
Rififi - amazing robbery scene.
Les Jeux Interdits
Les Invasions barbares was an extremely good movie in my book. C.R.A.Z.Y. was very good too. I also really like the one with the family gaz station and the kid that takes off to Berlin (forget the title)...very good.

You don't really need to see the 1st one before the 2nd.
It is hands down the best comical movie i've ever seen. Im usually a very hard critic towards movies because ive just seen so many, but this one I pretty much know by heart.
Its important that you understand ''verlant'' to be able to enjoy this movie though, as the main characters are all Jewish Moroccan so they have their accent and expressions.
If not, then La Haine is the best movie translating life in the ghetto in France. That movie is amazing as well.
Three other funny movies are:
Les visiteurs..
Les trois freres..
Tais toi..

I would recommend
- Diner de Cons - I concur one of the funniest movie I have ever seen
- Les Ripoux
- Cache
- Diva
- La Femme Nikita
- Gazon Maudit
- La Cage au Folles
- Krzysztof Kieslowski Trilogy - Trois Couleurs - Bleu/Blanc/Rouge (Habs?)

This one is really good you should go rent this one first
From France: most Francis Veber movies are hilarious really. Tanguy was awesome as well.
For a laugh on Québec, try Elvis Gratton but take it with a grain of salt.
Cruising Bar was funny as hell back then.
Les Boys 1 and probably 2 are worth seing, I wouldn't go farther because they really took the audience for granted after the first half of the second one.
Patrick Huard is a huge ********* but bon cop / bad cop is pretty entertaining.
-Congorama
-La Moitié gauche du frigo
-La Grande Séduction
-Les Invasions barbares
-C.R.A.Z.Y.
-L'Audition
