Most Overrated Defensemen

Going along w/ the overrated forwards I will do a poll on overrated Defensemen.

Next week I'll set up two polls for underrated players (maybe later today if I have time at work but most likely on monday).

Anyway my most overrated Defensemen would be Marc Staal. I know this is a huge surprise and it was hard to pick him but on these boards he is talked about like he is already a superstar. he has yet to find his offensive game, and while good defensively he is still not at an upper echelon. While I have no doubts that he will become a great player in the league, he is overrated on these boards so far as he is talked about as a #1 dman already. I do not think he is yet as I think he is a #3 borderline #2 right now, but should improve by the end of the year.

a close second is Redden, but as he has not played for the Rangers yet and I do not know how he will fit on this new team I couldn't say him yet. but if he plays awful at least I will stop being on Chris Drury's case for the worst contract.

Pock and Rozi. Don't want either on this team.

Is anyone here "overrating" anyone on that list? It's kinda hard to say it's Pock, since most people don't even want him on the team, including the coach. Saying he's a good choice for 7th is hardly overrating him.

Sanguinetti should be on the list. He's the only defenseman I can think of that has people making an argument to insert him into this years NYR lineup despite his lack of pro experience.

Definitely gotta go Roszival, the only player that made me feel better (when hearing he was on the ice) while watching the playoffs last year

you know I was thinking adding him but i decided not to b/c I dont think he has a realistic shot at making the Rangers this season and if I add him than I have to add other prospects. But I do agree he tends to be overrated on these boards.

Is there any way to add him into the poll?

I went with Potter, mostly because a lot of people around here have him penciled in as the #7 d-man went he hasn't shown anything on the NHL level yet.

Voted for Pock. People talk about him like he should be a 2nd pairing guy. Now people are including him in next year's lineup!

People call Rozsival worthless for what he does, and there's not a person on these boards who hasn't denounced his play more than like it. How can he be overrated?

Dan Girardi's overrated. Sure, he's young, and un-drafted, but people talk like if we let him go the team goes under. If he remains consistent, plays the body more, and focuses on defense, he'll be a great 2nd pairing guy for years to come, but other than that, he's so expendable....

Wade Redden.

Why the Hell does Staal have 3 votes, if anything he's underated on these boards. remember the Pitkanen and Schremp for Staal, and a 1st proposal?

Is this poll in general or for here on the boards? On here it has to be Potter. A lot have him penciled in as our 6th/7th defenseman, while I personally think he is nothing special and very unproven.

In general, I have to say Rozsival.

That was from one idiot Oilers fan, that shouldn't be a barometer of how Staal is looked at on these boards, and it isn't.

While I love the kid, and wouldn't want him traded for almost anything, in general I think he's right, Staal is overrated on these boards, and I think his last name has a lot to do with that. Give him another last name, he wouldn't be looked at in the same way, I'd bet.

This one is really a toss up because the two guys that are overrated are also the most overpaid guys on the team. I went with Rozsival simply because I haven't seen Wade Redden play for us yet. Rozsival is terrible in the defensive zone and seems to get nervous with the puck very quickly. I hope that changes because we have him for four more years and his turnovers can be very ugly.

After the "face of the new NHL" thing, how can it not be Girardi?

Didn't mean to offend anyone, but I am just saying this from some of his past seasons.
