Realistically you're talking millions. It's a massive LED screen that would have to be uniquely constructed by hand (there's no manufacturing plant to pump these babies out) and it has to be weather proofed to boot.

Taken from a page discussing jumbotron cost "Conservative estimates start at $ 2 - 4 million for one around 23' x 31' in size."

Sooooooooo, a new Jumbotron for 15 years instead of Smolinski for 1 year?

I read where about three NHL 'barns' have white netting instead of black which tends to make the netting blend in with the white background of the ice, therefore less obtrusive. I wonder if that is true?

That's not true. They're displayed all through the game. just not on the scoreboard.

Where are they displayed? I can't see them from 436. They used to have an out-of-town scoreboard in the corners next to the old shot clock, but they removed them this year to make room for the new video ring. They were very hard to read from where I was sitting anyways because of the angle.

They're at either end on the higher of the two video rings...most of the time.

For a newer building the jumbotron at the Bell Centre is such an eyesore... They may be expensive but Gillett's been making a huge profit and it needs to be replaced for next season already.

that buffalo scoreboard is pretty much identical to the one in vancouver.... I think that style will become the norm in these rinks. Most teams have shifted away from the diamond screen. These screens only lasted for about 10-15 years.

New Jumbotron at Bell Center

My neighbour has a steel structure company and he has been working on the structure of the new jumbotron these last few weeks between events at Bell Center. Its going to be a high definition jumbotron. For the 2008-2009 season.

Yesss!!!!!

About time, I went to the Tampa game in early January and that thing sucked ass. With the money they rake in, you'd figure they'd replaced it long ago.

The one in Philly is really sweet. I'd like it if ours looked similar:

The one in Scotiabank place is worse. No point in replays, the screen is so small you cant make out anything.

Finally, it was about time! Now I will have a perfect view of the replays on the jumbotron from my season tix in section 321A
Also, women dancing during POM contest with their breasts bouncing all around on a Giant HD screen = priceless!

I wonder if they've got plans for it. I could use a conversation piece for the basement...

Aren't they supposed to be replacing that one soon as well?
