Let's Build Next Years Team - Third Line Right Wing

Im sorta ripping off flylines yearly prospect post, and kinda building a twist around it. Were going to vote on the lines for next year. Im going to go position by position, and were going to have a vote for every single player, even the more obvious choices till we fill out an entire roster.

The assumptions here are the team carrying 2 goalies, 1 backup defenseman, and 2 backup forwards. The first few obvious prospects will also be listed in every vote, along with an "other" option. This is if you feel another player not listed is a better choice than any of the other players.

The Roster As It Stands Now:

Markus Naslund (52.83%) - Scotty Gomez (91.67%) - Nikolai Zherdev (78.02%)
Nigel Dawes (72.50%)
- Chris Drury (54.48%) - Petr Prucha (40.91%)
Dan Fritsche (45.21%) - Brandon Dubinsky (93.15%) - Third Line Right Wing
Fourth Line Left Wing - Fourth Line Center - Fourth Line Right Wing
First Backup Forward
Second Backup Forward

First Pairing Left Defenseman - First Pairing Right Defenseman
Second Pairing Left Defenseman - Second Pairing Right Defenseman
Third Pairing Left Defenseman - Third Pairing Right Defenseman
Backup Defenseman

Starting Goalie
Backup Goalie

Agreed, you can't really make a case for anybody else for this spot given whose left.

Personally, I think a more skilled player with better hands (like Sjostrom) would be better for this spot.

Callahan, but Sjostrom could take over his role if needed.

Callahan is going to get the vote (Good choice), but it's not as clear cut as some have made it; Sjostrom is a good choice too. Can't really go wrong with either.

How so?

What is this obsession with Sjostrom? Callahan is good for full effort every shift and 10-15 goals a season. Korpikoski has played ONE game. Give me a break. He ain't taking Callahans spot and Sjostrom did nothing to warrant taking it either.

Also, I HATE Prucha and Drury on the same line. Go watch Prucha's rookie season over (YouTube by DraftGuru if necessary), more specifically, HOW he scored the majority of his goals. Crashing the net, fighting in front of the net, or camping out far post. All to similar to Drury's style of play. I'd much rather have that tactic spread out over 2 lines than over doing it on one.

Not that your wrong, but it sounds like your making it out that Sjostrom didn't have a career before the NYR.

I don't think there is an obsession with FS as much as there is a hometown crush on RC.

Sjostrom had a career before he came here, certainly...but since he's come here, he's shown nothing to warrant playing along side better players.

Nothing? Yea he didn't get into an offensive groove, but hell even RC was sent down to find his. Defensively he showed to be solid, a very good forechecker, and even brought sprinkles of excitement to our all too boring 4th line (offensively... he was the only one with any sort of glimmer of hope on that line when he had the puck). But, that's all to similar to Callahan. But unlike Callahan, FS was only with the team for what, 1-2 months?

Sjostrom was on pace for around 14 goals had he played a full 82 games last season, and most of his 18 games with the Rangers were on the 4th line. He's bigger than Cally, and hustles just as hard, IMO. Plus, with I'd say he has a better skill set, which I would say could give him a better offensive punch when he isn't playing with the likes of Orr, Hollweg, and Betts

Sjostrom. Can we have at least one line where everyone is 6ft+?

Exactly my rationale for choosing Freddy

These lines are a joke. Especially the second line. Hell, we used that line as our third line last year. The second line is supposed to put pucks in the net. We've got one decent line and 3 defensive checking lines.

Naslund, Gomez, and Zherdev are the only ones that are capable of generating any offense. They need to be spread across our top two lines.

I don't hate Callahan.

He has limited offensive abilities. And the sad reality is that he is the most overrated player on these boards.

That is why I think the line should look like this:

Dawes-Gomez-Zherdev (Don't mess the chemistry that Dawes and Gomez already have.)

Naslund-Drury-Prucha (Naslund looks like he can fit well intro Drury's style, and if needed, Prucha may have to switch to Gomez's line due to style of play. Like someone else noted, Drury and Prucha both crash which is a big no IMHO.)

Korpy/Fritsche-Dubinsky-Callahan (Really good third line if you ask me. Our youngest line which is an above average offensive punch)

Voros-Betts-Orr (Imagine this line! Rough as hell. Great line if you ask me.)
