MTL power play this year?

who will assume Streit's PP position/numbers this yr (similar to how Streit assumed Souray's role last yr)?

Good question...at this point, I think it's safe to say that one of Tanguay, Kovalev and S.Kostitsyn will play on the point this year...and Markov will have an even more important role.

Kosty Jr. being the new passer to Markov. Or even Tanguay being the passer to Markov.

Sergei Kostitsyn did a good job of it last year.

EDIT: wow~! 3 similar answers all at the same time...

Markov seems to be the passer to whomever...doesn't seem to matter...

I see Markov being the shooter for once. Might not be the hardest shot of all but absolutely one of the most accurate ones. It's time for Andrei to shoot.

Couldn't agree more, but it seems we do not have anyone to feed him? It always seems in reverse...

I'd like to see sergei kostitsyn moved back to the point for the PP. He has excellent vision. But I want markov to replace streit's shot. Markov simply doesn;t shoot much but he has a decent shot. 2 years ago, he had souray to feed, last year he had streit to feed but this year, I want sergei kostitsyn to be the playmaker and markov to be the trigger man.

So, would Markov move to the right side ? We keep mentionning SK jr. when Andrei might make more sense, more of a natural shooter.

I am not worried about the PP.
The Key has been Kovalev on the half boards all along.
He is the General out there on the PP.
He decides who gets a pass and when and why.
Now with Tanguay, the second line PP will have it's own General and the pressure will continue.
Since most teams only have 1 pair of great PK specialists and 1 pair of top d-men, I expect the Habs PP to be top end yet again.

all this even if Sundin does not sign with the Habs.

I'd like to keep Markov on the left side because his wrist shot when he gets in the high slot is really effective and also because of the pass to kovalev on the other side.

As i always said i think AK should play the point on the PP because on the left wing he cant shoot at all. Plus his defensive awareness is much better then it was. He always played at the point i dont know why he shouldnt right now. That's on the first wave, on the other one i wouldnt mind SK with Hamrlik and that is if Mathieu Carle is in Hamilton. If not put him with Hamrlik.

So AK at the point on the first wave and SK on the 2nd wave with Tanguay Kovalev Plekanec Koivu Higgins Latendresse we are fine up front.

The if's are Carle, potentially Brisebois and if Lats cant do anything there we'll have to move SK up front on the 2nd wave and use maybe Gorges at the point or double shift Markov mostly and AK sometimes.

Gorges is not in the nhl because of his creativity, which is important on the PP. He's a guy that we might see from time to time on the secondary PP, but thats about it.

I would like to see A.Kost tried there, he has a nice vision, can pass the puck pretty well but the most important is that he has a hard eavy shot to complement Markov who is more a set up guy than a pure shooter..

Right now, my projection is;

Alex Tanguay - Saku Koivu - Alex Kovalev
Andrei Markov - J. Gorges

A. Kostitsyn - T. Plekanec - C. Higgins
R. Hamrlik - S. Kostitsyn

.. Though I could see Latendresse take Gorges spot (move Kovalev back to the point).

I think Gorges will develop a offensive upside this season. And since he's one of Carbo's favorites he will see power play time on the second unit.

Maybe they can use Markov in Streit's spot and Tanguay or S.Kost in Markov's prior spot, that way you still have a guy with a good one timer on the RH point, that helps free up Kovalev to cut in off wing and get shots off in the seam between the forward and d-man. If you lose that one timer on the RH point, teams can use the point PK guy to help out on him(Kovy).

Another option is to use Kovy on the point and Tanguay or Koivu off wing on the halfboards.

Gorges played the point at Junior, saw it in an interview with him somewhere; can't remember where though...

Im not worried about it.

everyone worried when Souray left, we were still #1.

Streit was a big piece but the 2 keys are Markov and AK27
