I'm just going to come right out and say it.

I think he is completely useless and a waste of a roster spot on our team.

And, it's just the way I feel.

He's slowwwwww, he's slowwwwwwwwww, men you can't understand howww he's freaking slowwwwwwwwww, slow slow slow slow slow slow slow.

Actualy i might sound strange, i'm not even sure if it has been said on this board, but Guillaume is not specificaly slow, he's actualy prety fast after the 2 first strides, in the playoff i saw him going like a train across the ice a couple of times.

Now let this post be feeded by all your hatred.

Latendresse has surprising speed, I find. He always gets ragged on for being slow, but he's really not that bad. He might not be explosive, but once he gets going, he can skate.

He's like a freight train.. Problem is by the time he builds up his speed the play is already finished and he has to turn around, another thing Freight Trains don't do very well.

I find him to be slow, soft, and contrary to what many believe I don't believe he has a very good shot. Supposevly he has great hands, I keep hearing it on these forums but yet I have yet to see it in an NHL game.

I don't feel he brings anything to this team that Pacioretty, D'Agostini or several other of our prospects could bring to the table at this stage in the game. I really hope he proves me wrong this year, I'd love nothing more then to be proven wrong.

I just can't get over his skating stride, it's horrible. I watched parts of a Habs-Leaf game from November on LeafsTV a couple days ago, and my god his skating is painful to watch. He looks like a newborn donkey out on the ice.

Anyway I voted yes, I like what he brings to the team. But I'm never going to be a big fan on his, and 90% of that is his skating.

True, he doesn't use it correctly, he does a lot of hits but not all of them will hurt. But he's really young, he will learn.

It reminds me of that movie "De Latendresse en prolongation" where the trainer tell the young and strong rookie "Let me show how to use this big body of yours". Maybe Kirk should do the same with Guillaume.

Lats has shown that he can put the puck in the net when he plays on the scoring lines or on the PP. However, his skating is below NHL standards and he's not a good backchecker. On a scrub line he's wothless unless he throws his weight around and he hasn't been doing that often enough.

Sure, he's got a lot of potential, and seems to be a nice, decent guy.

What I don't like is people using him as a pawn for their own political gain.

He didn't deserve to make (and stay with) the team at 19, and trough no fault of his own it stumped his development. That's what most "anti-Lats" people are pissed about, that a player got a different treatment because of his background.

he's like ponikarovsky 2.0 - big guy who plays small. He can shield the puck but I'd like to see the stats as to how many of his hits actually knocked someone else off the puck. I'm certain it wasn't many. Needs to learn to fight traffic in front of the net if he's ever going to have a career in MTL....

That happened because Lats wouldn't take his visor off and Pratt wanted to do it for him...

I don't think thats true about him being treated special because of his background... the problem was more the rules than anything else....

At 19 he had nothing left to prove in the QMJHL, but could not go to the AHL.... so it was a choice between the Q or the NHL.... Habs brass felt that in the Q he was so physically dominant that it could lead to him becoming lazy, and there were signs of this (Sutter didn't like his work ethic at the WJC) so they decided the NHL and higher competition was the way to go. It would've been nice if he could have gone to Hamilton.

Regardless I still think he is progressing nicely...
21 years old... Power forwards take long to develop historically
32 career NHL goals already under his belt...
improved a lot defensively in his second year... -20 (06-07) vs -2 (07-08)
07 summer commitment to lose weight
08 summer commitment to power skating lessons

He seems to understand where his weaknesses lie, and is working to improve... I think at 21, to give up on him now would be a complete waste and a big mistake.

I may have misunderstood the poll. Do I like his play on MTL so far and do I think he should be there? NO

Do I like the potential of a 21 year old 230lbs winger that has shown great offensive flair as a junior? YES.

No point in giving up on him but his lack of 2 way play, the fact he does not transition well (skating) on a transition team and fails to use his big body to his full advantage leads me to believe he should be in the hammer getting 20 mins a night to improve. MTL is too deep and too close to challenging to save a spot for a project in the line up every night.
