Kostritzer
Blanche de chambly
Hoegaarden
Belle Gueule Rousse
Bitburger
Guinness
Kilkenny
Pilsner Urquell
Rickards Red
Sleeman Honey Brown

those 3 are my favorites.
The Kostritzer is from Germany 4,8%
The Bitburger is from Germany too 4,8 %
The Kilkenny is a irish beer 5%

This is two good places to pass by if you are in mauricie.

I started drinking when I moved here, I got used to them. They have a lot of choices, but I got used to those I mentioned. Bud Light Lime is the one with the best taste though.

Red beers are the best.
La Boréale Rousse is the best of them.

I live in trois-rivières, so la barik is a place i go often! Also, le dépaneur du boisé, the dépaneur with the best import beer of the world.
I've been to the trou du diable at shawinigan : GO THERE!
every beers are great and the since its a bar/restaurant, they serve ribs marinated in le sang d'encre : BEST RIBS EVER

There are a lot of great American beers, just stay away from the mass produced swill. My personal favorites include St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, Anchor Liberty Ale, Harpoon Winter Warmer, and Czechvar.

Guinness, Stella Artois and La Sang d'Encre like a few others. They are right and exact about this beer. Trou du Diable also makes an excellent stout beer, same as Guinness, La Baron Noire, not le Baron Châtelois.

Seriously, Pilsner Urquall and Hoogarden (already mentioned) are in my Top 5. I'd add:

Stone Brewery IPA (San Diego microbrewery that is starting to distribute across the US)
Sam Adam Boston Ale (it's really hard to beat this for taste - great with pizza)
Jockey Club (a local union made in Newfoundland - drank a good many of these bad boys attending MUN and still my favorite if "I'm going on the beer")

I've been to "le Trou du Diable" once and altough I'm a fan of Unibroue products (3 Pistoles is my favorite, especially on tap - Noire de Chambly is close second) my loyalty would switch over if I could get a hand on their products here in Montreal. I've found a place on St-Denis where they often have one or two of their beer on tap but that's pretty much it.

I've sampled all the beer they had at the time I was in Shawinigan (12 in total) and I was impressed with LE SANG-D’ENCRE, ST-ANDRÉ de la CLAYMORE, LA RUBIS RED, LA BISCORNUE and LA PÉNURIE.

I also appreciate Leffe brune, Kilkeny, Moosehead, l'Achouffe, Chimay and many others I can't remember now.

I love beer!

I'm living in Berlin, Germany for the summer so I'm really broadening my palate when it comes to beer. In Germany you can go to the grocery store and pick up individual, 500ml bottles for as low as 35c plus deposit (another 8c). But that's the cheapest beer, Oetinger, and I didn't enjoy it too much. The next cheapest is Sternburg Export at 45c a bottle. This tends to be what I go for. I'll just go and pick up 6 bottles, which is like buying 9 in Canada but it only cost €3.18. Can't beat that, and I think its a pretty decent beer. Alot of my local friends drink Becks here, but to me it tastes like Molson Dry, which I'm not a big fan of. Every city and region in Germany has dozens of local breweries so I get to taste alot of the local beers and I'd say that almost all of them range from good to excellent. Going back to Canada will be hard.

In Canada, I'm a college student, so money's tight. Linving in Ontario, I buy the discount brand, Lakeport Light. I had the regular Lakeport Pilsner once and didnt like it at all, but was surprised at how good the Light version was. For $26.40, its a pretty good deal, you get a good tasting beer for a solid price. I prefer it to Carlings or Sleemans.

Love Guiness, Smithwicks and Kilkenny. All great Irish Beers. Whenever I go to Montreal, stopping in at Brutopia, on Crescent Street is an absolute must. Great beer there. The Nutbrown is my favourite.

Rant Time: Heiniken is the most overrated beer out there, imo. It's garbage. But somehow they've carved themselves a niche in North America, as the 'Classy, European Beer' that people drink when they want to look cool. Honestly, theres so much better European beer easily available at a better price in Canada, please, go ahead and try them.

And another rant, how is it that here in Germany, another developed country very much like Canada, they can sell beer at 45c for a 500ml bottle, while in Canada, I'm considered 'cheap' for buying the discount brand at $1 per 333ml bottle. It's an outrage. How did prices get so high, is it really THAT heavily taxed?? I come home in a month, going to be hard to adapt...

Good thread, I've noticed that I can't have much fun anymore without a beer in hand. Especially in social situations. And when I'm stressed out or annoyed, a beer will usually turn my mood right around. Does this mean I have a drinking problem?
