I'll tell ya this much: anyone that says unused cap space is wasted cap space is getting a kick in the junk.
Having cap room means that a team is available to acquire an expensive player during the season, after certain players go on the market. Trades are a complete rarity during the NHL season these days. Why? Because no one can fit people under their cap anymore, and the teams that do have cap space -they don't got what the other team needs.
Not that I'm saying we should definitely keep all that space...if we don't sign Sundin, we should trade for Schneider.
- Okay, for the serious part, from Hockeybuzz, Calgary is over by 1.4 million.....TADAM! Matthew Lombardi makes 1.8.....They would be so dumb getting rid of him but how about trying to see how dumb they could be.....I want this guy for so long now.....hockeywise speaking of course.
- If not, how about going after Kozlov since Caps have also to unload some salary. Would give us that big righty at the center position. Nice 3rd liner going UFA next year, great 'cause we can't unload him if it doesn't work and Caps won't be too demanding 'cause of that fact.
- Lang would be an option. Especially since he's UFA next year.
- How about the teams that are not over but real, real close....How about John Madden from the Devils who will be a hot commodity next year at the UFA period. Of course, would love to sign him long term but we can use that to trade with Jersey and use the fact that he's becoming UFA for a respectable trade. If they want to use Rolston at the center position, well they're set at that position with him, Zubrus (with that big contract) and Parisť. And then Holik is there this year, Zajac....With only 1.3 million left to the Cap, they have no room if they need something at the deadline.
