Re-negociate Komi,Pleks and Higgins contract. Use the cap space to give them a raise this year so it will be lower in the long run.

Not allowed to renegotiate existing contracts under the CBA... you can only sign extenstions... which are essentially new deals.

Yuck. Yuck, I say.

Decent player, lots of skills, but I want this team to strive for better players than that. He's a castoff on the decline.

If Bob trades for a center I want him to trade for a real hum-dinger of a center. There's enough talent on the wings to make due with Lapierre as 3rd line C.

How about trading some solid prospects for Nash? Columbus will probably never agree but it would be nice to see Nash with a strong team. With Tanguay and Koivu feeding him, 50 goals is almost guaranteed for a sniper of his talents.

He is their franchise. They will not trade him for anything.

We could pool all our prospects and Columbus would say no.

Now that they've got a franchise center to play with their franchise winger? Their GM would sooner let you poop on him and set it on fire.

Plan B's, trade with cap space issued teams for a player they need so the team over the cap or teams near the cap need to shed salary to make room for salary.

Teams in this category:

OVER THE CAP

Anaheim - 23 players signed, but 3,235,000 over the cap
Calgary - 24 players signed, but 1,449,167 over the cap (not including Andre Roy signing $'s)
Chicago - 21 players signed, but 415,999 over the cap with 2 spots left on roster
NY Rangers - 24 players signed, but 302,176 over the cap
Philadelphia - 21 players signed, but 1,031,667 over the cap with 2 spots left on roster
Washington - 24 players signed, but 1,192,212 over the cap

UNDER THE CAP (But require space)

Dallas - 20 players signed, but only 1,715,000 left for 3 players to fill their 23 man roster
New Jersey - 23 players signed, but only 1,350,594 left for trade deadline space
Pittsburgh - 22 players signed, but only 1,779,933 lesft for 1 roster player or trade deadline
San Jose - 20 players signed, but only 1,374,166 left for 3 players to fill their 23 man roster

Of interest....Vancouver and Tampa.

If Vancouver signs Sundin they will have 69,167 lest under the cap for any additional signing or trade deadline deal.

Tampa has too many players on their roster and need to shed some players.

Players of interest for the Habs from these teams that could be available:

Ducks; Schneider, Beauchemin or Kunitz
Flames; Aucoin
Hawks; Havlat, Seabrook or Barker
Rangers; no one
Flyers; Briere (if willing to lift no trade clause), Gagne
Caps; Kozlov

Stars; Lehtinen
Devils; Madden
Pens; no one (all the good one's aren't going anywhere)
Sharks; Marleau (obvious because of rumours - NTC though), McLaren

Nucks; Kesler, Bieksa
Bolts; St. Louis (NTC?) only player that interests me outside of untouchable Vinnie

Are there any players form these teams you would use for Plan B, or from others????

If Sakic were willing to leave, yeah sign him but he is playing in Denver or hanging them up only. Shanny isn't the area we need help, we need centre help and maybe a top 4 dman.

Who is left as UFA's out there other than players like Sundin, Sakic, Selanne and Shanahan who all seem to be players thinking of retirement or focusing on one team???

Not much... As far as players with offensive skills...

Forsberg (out till at least end of December with foot issues again... i'd bet he won't sign till near the deadline again)
Nagy (doesn't fit on our team.... can't play centre... doesn't crack our top six wingers)

I really hope Hossa starts a trend, while Philly and NY fall flat on their faces. 'Tis a pipe dream, however.

From that list Havlat and McDonald are the most realistic because their teams might not be in the playoffs and their are some franchise type players there that aren't likely to move at the deadline.
Havlat is a game breaker but injury prone, we also most likely wouldn't be able to resign him.
McDonald gives us a very serviceable player who would add good depth. We could resign at a decent price.

Unless BG is able to land Sundin, he's not likely to tamper too much with what we have in place. The cap space allows a bit of flexibility at the end of the year.

well, we have to assume that vancouver is in the lead. What we do know is that the canucks and sundin have had talks very recently. I doubt that sundin's camp has talked to montreal for a long time especially after gainey's comments about a week ago. The habs are waiting for the phone to ring from sundin's camp while sundin's camp is actively talking to vancouver

Where did you hide the camera in Gainey's office???

I don't think we know anything about how often Gainey is talking to Sundin.

We all know Gainey is far more tight-lipped than Mike Gillis... thats not a bad thing... and it may be attractive to Sundin.

seriously, beside Sundin there isn't anybody else we should sign. We already aded 2 players this offseason and lost 2. If we add another player it will probably slow down someones development. Although we will be contending for the cup this year, we shouldn't be looking for UFA to do it, we have the peices in our organization right now. If Sundin doesn't sign here, then don't do anything but listen to trade proposals. If one come up that makes sense without hurting thechemistry we have right now the do it. But if has to be for a big name centre, we don't need wingers or defencemen.

I'm sorry but Kopitar is worlds ahead of Plekanec. Tomas is a great player, but he didn't put up 77 points as a 20 year old in the NHL.

And "replace Pleks with Koivu"....I'm pretty sure we'd replace Pleks with....Kopitar

Kevanos... as of right now we've lost 4 players...

Streit
Ryder
Smolinski
Brisebois

Though rumors seem to indicate Breezy will be re-signed.

He needs to divide it up between all the HFers for their support!!!

Not sure if I told you all my story, but was driving home from work during the Bruins playoffs, along I89 north. Saw a bunch of you Habs fans passing me in my white car!! Was awesome driving home at 2:30amish and watching all those flags pass by me, returning from Boston! So if you all see a white Cobalt on I89, and it has a Habs license plate protector around it, and north of Burlington, it's probably me, so say HELLO!!!

right.

Smoky being gone is good because Chip can take his place, do we really want to pick up Shanahan instead of develop Chip. i would prefer to use Chipchurra. All that we are missing is a top 2 line big center, beisde that i don't think we need anybody else unless it's a very attractive trade offer.
