Fave prospect who didn't make the grade

I stole this idea from the Flyers board:

Which Rangers prospects who didn't make it, for whatever reason, were you really pulling for or do you still regret didn't make the cut?

For me, I'd have to say Stefan Cherneski (probably a popular choice) and Dan Blackburn. Both are players who would have been great if they hadn't gotten injured. Cherneski had that horrible injury which prevented him from becoming a fan fave. Blackburn also had a style of play that I loved to watch.

I also liked Jarkko Immonen who was sooooo close to being an NHL 2nd-liner.

Pavel Brendl.... I really liked this kid at the draft and was hoping he'd pan out as advertised.... unfortunately, it didn't happen.

If you started listing prospects the Rangers traded away, we'd all start screaming (Weight, Norström, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum...).

Kloucek. Man I loved that guy when he first came up. He would just run over people.

Blackburn doesn't get hurt, he's the number one goalie right now.

18 yo playing at that level, could only get better.

Blackburn "made the cut". i dont get why hes the choice. he got hurt. its not like he was an epic failure like Balej or Brendl or Lundpuke, or whatever. He was going to be a very very very good goalie if he didnt get hurt.

Lundmark, Sundstrom (he made it but not as I thought he would), Balej, Kloucek, Karpotsev, Dube, Ferraro Bros, come to think of it we had alot of flops that I liked.

Old school -
Tomas Kloucek: I thought he'd be a beast on the blueline, our Czech version of Beukeboey.

Nik Sundstrom: He played on Forsberg & Naslunds line at the U-18 championships, I thought he was an A+ prospect, but ended up more of a C+. Imagine if San Jose had traded us the #2 pick(Pronger) instead of to Hartford

New school -
Marcus Jonasen: Big winger who performed well in the CHL, elected the captain of his team. Such a tease.

Ivan Baranka: I thought he was the next Petr Svoboda - defensively solid, good puck mover. Girardi kind of took that role so can't be too upset that he's gone, but really liked him for a number of years when i got to see him live in the CHL.

*Special note: Blackburn, Cherneski, Lyashenko: Just tragic what happend to them.

I loved Immonen and never understood why Renney threw him under the bus so much but Dubinsky wouldn't have such a big role if that hadn't happened imo so it was worth it in the end.

Montoya. Our highest draft pick in 9 years. plays 3 solid years in Hartford, never sees a minute of NHL action, and gets traded for virtually nothing.

Kloucek and Cherneski are the two that impressed the hell out of me.

I remember Leetch calling Kloucek the best rookie he had ever seen as a Ranger since he had arrived.

I'd go with Kloucek & Cherneski, and add Jessiman (at least to date).

For what its worth, I remember Edge saying he heard there were a lot of teams high on Olver and he would probably not have made it to our next 2nd round pick, so the Rangers probably weren't the only team that would have taken him that high.

Yeah Florida was interested supposedly at the next pick or the #53 pick overall. I remember well, I just wish we wouldve given him to them Too bad they had to settle on David Booth
