If you could bring one former Oiler back to the team, who would you choose?

Would anyone like Richard Matvichuk on the team? The shutdown defenseman we have been looking for?, From Edmonton, too.

Hey guys, we could trade for Pronger, then trade Souray away and still be under the cap!

Pronger-Gilbert
Visnovsky-Grebeshkov
Staios-Smid

We have the scoring up front..... Penner will come to camp in better shape, Horcoff is healthy, Cole is a great addition - Gagner, Cogliano & Nilsson have a year under their belt...

We have the puck moving defensemen..... Gilbert & Grebeshkov have a year under their belt - we just traded for Visnovsky...

We need a complete shut down defenseman & we need an enforcer. Pronger will never come back; Laraque is a fighter (not an enforcer)...

Which leaves my choice as Hejda - the shut down defenseman that we desperately need to round out the corps...

I can't believe there have been so many answers that weren't Pronger. The guy is the best player we've ever had who's still playing in the league by a longshot.

After Pronger, I'd say Smyth, then Brewer.

For the people picking Pronger, you do realize that bringing him back would not only cost a good deal in terms of what we'd have to trade, but it'd also be the equivalent of tossing a grenade at that locker room, right?

Lupul's another good pick, but again, he'd cost a fair bit to bring in. I'm still going with Grier; very useful bottom six player that you wouldn't have to give up a lot to get.

Pronger. If Burke wasnt the GM of the Anahiem Ducks I would like to have Pronger back. Trade Souray+++ for him. When Burke gets fired which should happen very soon then go after pronger.

the thread isn't about reality,

obviously pronger will never come back but that doesn't stop the fact that anyone would take the guy back in a heartbeat. its not like he takes two separate teams to the cup final two years in a row or anything...

but since i hate pronger i have to go with the first jersey i ever got as a kid

MIKE GRIER

Obviously Pronger is not coming back, but neither are any of the other picks anyone has made. Especially Lupul.
Realistically, Hejda would be my pick, as Pronger, Smyth, and Arnott are NOT going to come back.

Pronger of course is the first guy on the list.

After that, I'd say Peca. Our single greatest hole on the roster right now is 3rd line centre who can take faceoffs and tough matchups. Pouliot and Brodziak are going to have a LONG year.

Pronger's like the supermodel that dumped us and made us feel like crap but would take back any day as soon as she said the word.

Pronger
Arnott
Laraque

Smyth
Hejda

Pitkanen
Spacek
Greene
Whitney
Stoll

that is all. Other players are tempting (Cleary, Maltby, Guerin, Grier, Glencross, and Sykora in particular) but no longer serve much of a purpose on our team.

Pitkanen, Greene, Stoll <--> Vish, Cole were done for more of a dressing room impact in my opinion & I like the new guys, but all 3 outgoing players were favs of mine and I'd be fine to undoing those trades.
