That Detroit part tells it all. They didn't want him to go there 'cause they didn't need him that much......What kind of a guy who wants to play for a contender would say that???

That contender effect means nothing, how surprising?

In Vancouver, he'll be the center of attention. Mr. Sundin wants the spotlight.

He's going in Vancouver.

Toronto spotlight >>>>>>> Vancouver spotlight

And don't tell me that Vancouver is a contender.

Kovalev >> Demitra

Tanguay >>>>>>>>> Wellwood
S.Kostitsyn > Raymond

Oh and we have Higgins too.

But it's pretty close, right? lol.

If Detroit wanted him, I guess Detroit thought that they would need Sundin as well, but Sundin and Co said that they thought they didn't need him....

Now even if Montreal want him, Sundin would say...."Well you went 1st overall last year, you don't need me". He would have to share the spotlight with Saku, Kovy, Tanguay.....

He might still go back to Toronto, but Montreal is out of the equation, in my opinion.

i'm thinking he's more open to toronto because he wants to be an important part but having said that he wants to help a team go over the top...he certainly would do that with montreal. i still think in montreal he would be an important part of the team...he would still be a go to guy

I unfortunately think so, too, Whitesnake. I think it's back home to Toronto for Sundin.

And again.....who cares about the "contending". He didn't want to go to DETROIT! Who's more a contender than Detroit?

Sundin would definitely be our best forward even with Koivu, Tanguay and a resurgent Kovalev, I don't think there's any question about it when you look at his consistent track record. He'd be the #1 C.

Their answer to the Detroit situation is absolutely puzzling though. Really does make you wonder how badly he wants to win a Cup.

List time I checked, Montréal didn't win anything. Detroit did.

btw, I know what you're doing...

Nieuwendyk seems that he'll be a decisive factor.

My only problem with Toronto as far as what we've heard is that Barry seemed hesitant as far as Toronto being in completely rebuilding process. Sundin might want the spotlight, but while he wants it, he does seem to want a supporting cast. Where's Toronto's???

He said he wants to be a big part of the team, a go to guy. In Detriot he would just be a bystander. He wants to be one of the main pieces.

You can't compare Detroit and Montreal... Detroit won the cup, we lost badly it the 2nd round, yes we do need sundin, and if he didn't want to come here he would have said it already, just like with Detroit.

You must not consider Ray Bourque a real winner then.

I'm comparing Montreal with Vancouver and Toronto. We're the Detroit of that group. The most talented, and the ones that needs less Sundin. Sure we need him as well, reason why we make a pitch for him. But everybody in here keeps telling ourselves that even if he doesn't come we're fine and most of us by looking at the 'Nucks lineup and Toronto's lineup keep saying that they won't make the playoffs. But with Sundin in the lineup, do you change your idea about the 'Nucks??? Sundin could have this in mind. He wants the spotlight and was flattered by the 'Nucks offer and the importance they're giving him in the team. Isn't it what he's looking for?

Add the fact that we're not #1 in the money department and add that to the fact that he'll be joining the Leafs worst enemy.....

I just don't see it for us.

believe me, alot of the players we take for granted as household names are anything but in other markets. Vancouver is no different.

Sure, they have heard of the kostitsyns and the plekanec's etc.., but they really dont know them well. That's why some people out here think vancouver's forwards are almost on par.

it works both ways though, some habs fans really dont know much about the canucks according to what I've read on this board. I just have the luxury of livng here so I know the canucks very well. Let me tell you, Montreal's forwards trump the canucks both in top end talent and more importantly, scoring depth. I'd love to have kesler as our checking centre though.

thats a good point. i agree with you he would have said it already if he wasnt really thinking about it...plus jp barry said its basically between vancouver, montreal, and toronto

from the interview i actually got the feeling it really is between vancouver and montreal but sundin is trying to say the right things for toronto
