Just how fast/slow is Chipchura?

Last night on 110% they really destroyed Chipchura on speed.
Now I know he is no speedster but what the real deal here.
Does anybody have the actual sprint speeds to compare with anybody on the Habs?

No No but it did get me thinking about the speed thing.
But I know they do test these things so I am asking if anybody has the numbers.

my friend always told me that chip is a slow guy since the habs drafted him it was someting noted in the socuintg reports etc.. maybe they meant below average skating technique ..hes not that slow but hes not fast either thats for sure...

but i did see some nice moves from chip...but comparing to latendresse, he is fast because he is always in movement latendresse would not look this slow if he was not as stationary as he is.

And then on the same show ended up saying how small we would look like at the center position without Sundin.....Again, 110% at his best....

Chips does not have the best skating technique that is for sure but he knows where to be and is excellent along the boards. If given the chance he will be superb on the penalty kill and dominate down low.

As for speed he really is not a slow as people think but because of his size and his stride he appears to others that he is slow especially because of the many smaller quicker players he is one the ice with.

I think that Chips and Lats will be speed demons as I heard somewhere that

The first ones now
Will later be last
The slow ones now
Will later be fast.

110% is a group of dumbasses needing attention...the facts don't usually make a difference.

Nope. They even said that this year was his last chance to make a good impression because a lot of young prospects are ready to take his spot.

How'd you know???

They did say that it was mostly Lats last chance to prove he can be something better that we've seen so far. A guest, don't remember who, saying that if Sundin comes, he would put Latendresse in the 1st line with him and Tanguay. Nobody from the panel was putting Chipchura in their starting lineup (a lineup that included Sundin though).

Agree that Chipchura needs to step it up a notch. If he doesn't, we might think of other possibilities for him. But it's obviously too soon to just put him in the garbage....

But they all seemed to think that Lats needs to step it up as well. Bureau thinking that Pacioretty is just close by ready to take his spot....

Lats is 21 and Chipchura is 22...the Habs would be dumb to give up on them at this point...unless it was part of a trade and they were getting their value back. A.Kost only established himself as an NHL regular last year at 22, some guys take until 24 or 25.

I find it funny how some keep harping on speed. Yes you need speed on your team nowadays in the NHL, but you also need guys that are strong on the puck and can go to the net. Guys like Holmstrom and Franzen are as slow if not slower than Lats and/or Chipchura.

I watched that show and no; they didnt 'praise' Lats particularly or specifically... quite the contrary instead!

Please stop trying to start trouble without knowing what really happened. Instead go look at the show online and then, maybe, you'll have an informed opinion...

110% (yesterdays show)

Chipchura has decent top speed once he gets going. His acceleration seems to be his biggest skating issue IMO. When he gets going (and pending who he is against) he can beat out icing calls and win races to the puck in other situations, he just needs a little time to get going. His positioning helps him out though as he tends to be in a good position to react to situations from.

his positioning often compensate for his lack of speed..

still has to work hard on that to become a valuable NHLer, IMO

People are obsess with skating speed, I like speed in the game: fast transition from def to offence, good positioning, good system. If it was only about speed, Grab would have been our #1 center….

I think you can be fast, but never has fast has a good pass.

He's a decent, not great skater. Like Lats they have an awkward skating stride that has problems getting them accelerated but once they start skating, they have good speed.

Chipchura has an advantage because he's just so ****ing smart and dominant with body positioning that you don't really notice his speed because you don't have to.

Exactly, and IMO Lapierre is the complete opposite, he has good speed but he doesn't have the smarts.
