And no, the B's can't put him on re-entry waivers - that doesn't become available until training camp, at which point they can no longer buy him out.

Patently false.

He's not a speedster, and he may have lost a step, but overall he's a decent skater. Miles above some of the 4th liners in this league ...

Agreed, I don't think LA or even Atlanta lets him slip through, they are so much under the cap he is worth a chance

never know, sign him in san jose hoping his chemistry with thornton returns, put michalek on the line so murray doesn't have to skate much... and who knows, look at being able to make a trade using cheechoo to get the last couple pieces san jose may need, or maybe use cheechoo along with mclaren or something...... who knows

I don't think San Jose has the cap room to afford Murray. And I don't think they'll move players around to make his salary fit...maybe 4 years ago, but not the Glen Murray of today.

Best of luck Muzz

hm..... if I'd like the sharks to pick him up (thornton) but ..... he wouldn't be on the first line with thornton if he came here...and I still don't know how he will fit under the cap.

Sweet move by Chiarelli, to make sure he got the guy he wanted (Ryder) before cutting loose the guy he's replacing (Murray).
i dont think theres any way this was pre-planned, although i can see where people would say it. evidence looms large. it just doesnt make sense. the players union would probably have wideman and his agent both killed. his agent is in it to make as much money as possible, not to please the bruins.

I still don't see LA picking him up on waivers.

The Kings say they won't have problems reaching the floor once all their RFAs are signed. Defense is an area of bigger priority right now. The Kings want their young forwards to get a lot of ice time. I don't see them picking up forwards that would prevent them from giving guys like Purcell, Boyle, Moulson and perhaps longshots to make the team in Moller or Simmonds the ice time they want them to get. Kings management seems to be ok with the fact that they're likely going to be pretty bad next season. If they think Purcell has the potential to be a top 6 winger, they're not going to hold him back for another year so they can play Glen Murray.

If the Bruins wanted to trade Murray to LA and they gave him something to make it worth LA's while to pick him up, that might be a different story.

I'd be more surprised if the Kings claimed Murray on waivers than if they didn't claim him.

Agreed, he was a Pen for a while and they have a few more to pick up before they ice 18 forwards.

i hope this is true and it can be proved... I would love to see what the NHL will do when a team circumvents the cap

If Murray is indeed bought out then I think Ottawa is a likely destination. Bryan Murray was reportedly interested in trading for him recently. Price dependent of course...

You also can't just feed guys to the wolves. And with injuries and such, they'll all get their ice time.

They still need some sort of veteran presence to take it on the chin with them at the very least. He'll also get ice time and with a decent season, can then possibly be moved at the deadline. I think the Kings getting Murray would be a good move.

How exactly is that circumventing the cap? I don't even see anything against the rules in it.

Besides, you may get your wish before the start of next season depending on the findings of the Burke/Anaheim investigation by the league.

IIRC they can't trade him if they claimed him on waivers without offering him back to Boston (and any other team who put a claim in on him) first.
