Bouwmeester might be an UFA NEXT SUMMER

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/fla080723.html

I dont know for some reason I think signing Redden might hurt us down the road. Imagine if we signed Bouwmeester who is only 25 years old and would be 26 by preseason. now what if we sign Bouwmeester to a 8 year contract next year everyone would be happy cause he is in his prime and it would not be a bad deal unless he really goes downhill quickly.

imagine if our top 4 d is this for next year 09-10:

Redden Staal
Girardi Bouwmeester

No way JayBo makes it to UFA status next summer. Either he'll be traded and signed, or signed by Florida. Besides, his cap hit hit will be a lot closer to $8MM than $6.5MM.

After resiging our own restricted free agents how can we possibly afford what boumeester would sign for?

Actually if the Rangers trade or waive Naslund they could come up with some of the money....

Me too, but one way or the other, I really don't think he'll be a UFA next summer.

Waiting for the best young players to hit UFA status isn't a good bet. Have any done so yet? Does Hossa qualify?

They all seem to get signed before then so it seems like a waste of time to think that a team can just sit back and sign the young guns.

Jorts has a fascination with acquiring every player out there.

Just don't give up Callahan or Dubinsky to get them.

He won't make it to Unrestricted Free Agency. The Panthers will wind up trading him for 30 cents on the dollar just like they did with Luongo and Jokinen and he'll get locked up to a long-term deal. Hopefully it's to a Western team though because in my opinion, he's one of the best young d-men in the entire league.

Come on, JOrts... Is this thread worthy? Speculation about something a year away that probably won't happen, and even if it does, probably won't impact us?

Trade gomez and sign him after all we have a logjam at center.... would have said trade Drury but he would never waive is NMC.

Exactly. If you want him, start considering what Florida will want in return and what other offers you'll need to beat, because you're not getting him as a UFA.

Solving the log-jam at center by trading our best player at the position. I like it.

Hell, if Redden's NTC hasn't kicked in yet, why not offer him to Florida.

well if Dubinsky is as good as everybody says, and Ani will be as good as everybody says, and Drury must be amazing the way people stick up for him than i think it would be fine if we traded him. but more than likely i'm just being facetious right now.

but i might not be.

At least you're dedicated to your hatred for Drury.

fixed it for you. Love Drury as a person, teammate and leader... hate his contract. I don't hate many people, and especially if they are in a Rangers jersey. I'm just very critical about cap management, and a players worth. Probably overly critical but hey to each his own.

See, that's where the name change fools people... Until you said it, I forgot there was a change. I should've known, but didn't recognize it... dammit.

Thats how I feel. Jaybo> any current Ranger blueliner. That is a guy you give the type of deal we gave to Redden.

we're gonna need money to re-up staal.

i'd like j-bo, bu tonly if we can get rid of either redden or rozy.

and redden only has a limited no trade clause.

and relax with the hating on drury's contract...there's only 4 years left on it....its not really an albatross. plus i have a feeling that when its over he's gonna take some kind of discount to finish his career here.

IT'S NOT A NMC! He can choose - at the beginning of each year - 6 or 7 teams to which we cannot trade him. Big, big, BIG difference between that and a NMC.

If he is sucking that bad to get it to the point we want to move him, I don't see any kind of restriction as a good thing. I am the same with Redden as I am with Drury. I like them as players, but I hate thier contracts. I don't blame them for signing them, I woulda too but Slats is just a moron who might not be a good Cap GM. His days as being on top of the league are way way gone. I just have zero faith in the guy. When I seen all those draft picks and cap space a few years ago, this wasn't the kind of team I envisioned.

Amen. Truer words never said. Trying to construct a team (and payroll) based on heisting other team's superstars sometime in the fuuuuuture is lousy strategy, to be kind.

Drives me nuts on the Fishsticks board when fellow fans pine for potential UFAs...in the summers of 2009 and 2010.

Here's a better idea. Draft and develop your own stars. NYR is doing just that, NYI is now trying.
