It was obvious last year we needed forward help. I mean we were only one of the top scoring teams at even strength....

Wow, really? I thought his stating of the obvious was kind of condescending myself. Do you really think that we, or Poile for that fact, need this persons input to figure out that we need at least one other top 6 forward??????? I don't.

If they (nonspecific gender) were to come on our board and offer some actual insight I wouldn't say a word but that isn't what happened.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'll keep that in mind next time.

Actual input? How about Poile's reputation around the league? He can start a job but can never finish it. That would explain the situation (aside from the brutal ownership and other obvious local factors) Disregarding the clear liabilities of this team is pure homerism. I'm out.

With Wilson gone and Peverly being signed, I think we are looking at something like this:

Dumont - Arnott - Jones
Hornqvist - Legwand - Erat
Pihlstrom - Nichol - Tootoo
Fiddler - Peverly - Smithson
Ortmeyer

Weber - Suter
Klein - Hamhuis
Devries - Zanon
(VK is missing because of the pending arb hearing... if he is still with us, I personally would want to see him on the ice instead of Zanon. Put Devries with Hamhuis and pair Klein and VK)

I think there is someone missing... maybe I'm thinking of Gratton... he'd probably fill that second scratch on the forwards and fill in when needed on the 4th line. And the 3rd and 4th lines are how I want them to look. They could and will probably be mixed and matched and look different when the puck drops. But there it is.

Not exactly great but I hope the defense improves enough to compensate the lack of offense.

I'd flip Hornqvist and Jones. Hornqvist is probably more of a first line talent right now than Jones, plus I think Jones' style would compliment Legwand and Erat better. Also it would allow everyone to line up in their natural positions...

Hornqvist - Arnott - Dumont
Erat - Legwand - Jones

This is of course assuming no trades and that Jones is actually good enough to hold down that 6th spot right away. Other wise we're looking at Fiddler/Tootoo in that spot. If it's Tootoo then you can just flip him and jones as their style should be similar (which means if Jones can't out talent Tootoo then there's a problem). If it's Fiddler then probably put him on the LW and push Erat over to RW.

And yes, i'd fully expect Gratton to be a perma-scratch, only getting into games against teams like Vancouver and Calgary who will be packing some heat.

You left off Bonk. Something I think lots of us would like to do.

Crap... Bonk... ur right. Erm...

(I only really wanted to try and steer the conversation back to the topic at hand... but now that I've done it, I want to re-look at the line-up and try and pencil in Bonk and see where that puts us...)

Bonk likely will slot on the third line. Hopefully a return to a shut-down role, will see his defensive game (usually extremely good) return to form.

What I want…

Hornqvist - Arnott – Dumont
Erat - Legwand - Jones
Pihlstrom - Nichol - Tootoo
Fiddler - Peverly – Smithson
Scratch/fill in
Ortmeyer – Bonk - Gratton

Weber – Suter
Devries - Hamhuis
Klein - VK
Zanon

What will probably be:
Hornqvist - Arnott – Dumont
Erat - Legwand - Jones
Bonk – Nichol – Fiddler
Tootoo - Smithson – Ortmeyer
Scratch/fill in
Peverly – Gratton

(Pihlstrom sent to MIL)

Weber – Suter
Hamhuis - VK
Devries - Zanon
Klein

I think I am being a bit of a "Nicky Negative" with my second list, but then it is probably what Trotz will go with (assuming VK is signed). Per Legion's recommendations I think those top lines work better. I do think Jones will make a better fit than Tootoo on the 2nd line and I hope Tootoo sticks/is given a chance to stick to the 3rd line over Bonk or Fiddler.

Bonk is a natural center (although he can play the wing), and I think he is more suited for a grinder role than Nichol. Nichol should be on the fourth line unless an injury occurs.

Which are the two D likely to man the point on the PP with Zidlicky gone, Suter and Weber? Or Hamhuis or Koistonen in there maybe?

Weber and Suter on the first power play unit, Koistinen and either Hamhuis or Klein on the second power play unit.

He's just not quite ready and we don't need to rush him, we're already having problems fitting Klein and Koistenen on the roster.

He probably won't. Do NOT pick him up in a fantasy league.

Can we just sticky a thread that has "Sullivan won't play this year. Don't draft him for your fantasy team" as the title?
