A couple of unusual movies that I liked:

France: Feux Rouges http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365190/

Quebec: Un 32 août sur terre http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0156248/

Not brilliant movies, but different

Loved that movie, I wasn't expecting anything and it was amazingly packed with action. I loved the fact people were like 50% killed by guns and 50% killed by kamasaki (?) like moves .

Anyone mention Le Matou.

A classic, a bit older but very good.

As someone mentionned earlier, L'Auberge espagnole is a good one. If you liked it, try Les poupées russes, the sequel. I also loved Chacun cherche son chat. Le péril jeune is hilarious too. Klapisch is one of my favourite directors.

BTW, I never answered you, but yeah, I did see Le diner de cons and a couple of other French movie, like La haine (these two were my favs from France)... they were good, and some others I've seen were so-so... I was just saying how I rarely watch any of them because of the accent.

But when it comes to Quebec movies, I've seen almost every movie listed on this thread, from Un zoo la nuit, to C.R.A.Z.Y... I've seen them all. I'm a huge movie buff and I've seen most American, Canadian and Quebecer movies.

I saw Chrysalis on a plane because I had seen all the others.

Decent fight scenes.

For a light (but somewhat socially engaged movie):

La Grande Séduction is one of my favorites.

They're really great selections to anyone interested in french and quebecois movies...

Also, no one mentionned it, but Denis Chouinard's movie are worth a look also, espacially L'Ange de goudron and Clandestins...

I wish people would make such a list for other foreign movies like Italia, Spain, Danmark... and my favorites Germans!

...btw, I saw Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis... not as funny as Le diner de cons (one of the funniest movie ever made), but a great 100min...

A lot of great ideas for my next DVD foray!! Thanks guys... Like Ozy though, I like / love Quebecois films in our language (or second language as for me being mostly an Anglo "Q"); better than the real French ones with their pointu accent - almost a foreign language, have to concentrate too much....and I went to Lycee Francais too in my younger years abroad, - that helped to develop my antipathy towards some French I must admit, "Canadien" were regarded and treated very much as poor cousins....

acheers guys
