i would expect to see in terms of TOI:

1st pairing- 22-24 minutes
2nd pairing- 20-22 minutes
3rd pairing- 14-18 minutes

i think that would be fiar as the top two pairs are very skilled....it all depends on what type of game it is....if it has a lot of specialty teams or not or if it is back-to-back games

Redden is paid to be the best defenseman, but lets all be very clear about this, Marc Staal was our best defenseman by the end of last year as a 21 year old. I would be shocked if he doesnt actually improve on that ridiculous rookie performance and continue to be our best defenseman. The kid is something VERY special.

agreed, although if redden was brought in to put up points he should be out in a position to succeed......staal is there to play solid defense....as a former defenseman i can say it didnt really bother me(as a more defensive guy) what side i was playing on because i concentrated on stick placement more than blade use(if that made sense at all)

Staal was good but I wouldn't say he was our best d man. He will do great this year with either Rosi or Girardi. He needs to learn more about communication with his partner.

Rozsival is physical.

not to the extent girardi and staal are, but yeah

i'd still rather see those two (our most physical top 4 guys) split up. also, i think staal could learn a lot from playing with redden.

I'm in complete agreement with you.

Although, maybe not for the same reasons.

I would like to see Redden and Rozsival split up, and Girardi and Staal split up.

And my reasoning is this...

-Redden and Rozsival are our two biggest offensive producers on the back end. Split them up to create depth in that aspect.

-Staal and Girardi are our two most steady defenders in their own zone. Split them up to add depth in that aspect.

-Redden and Rozsival are our two "top" defenseman. And i am always of the belief that you need to split your top two Dmen to add depth. Of course if you have the complimentary players to play with them. And in our case, we do.

So i would like to see:

Staal - Redden
Rozsival - Girardi
Kalinin - Mara

I think there is a very strong chance that is what we are going to see.

I think I would've done this poll differently (sorry for being an armchair QB, inferno). I don't look at it as top pair and second pair just yet. I think we know who the top four defensemen would be and the question would be what is one pair, and what is the other, with any combo of the four defensemen as the choices. Initially I'm thinking Rozy/Staal and Girardi/Redden, and take it from there. Who goes against top lines? It depends on which pairing stands out best defensively. Rozy can be a good defenseman, so we'll see.
