Something on the lighter side (Habs connection).

Nice NOT to submit a post about the boring and annoying Sundin soap opera. Anyways, just finished watching TSN's Sports Centre. They profiled a young player attending the Canadian national junior hockey team camp. His name is Nazem Kadri and he plays for the Kitchener Rangers (OHL). Like Tavares, Kadri is eligible for the 2009 draft.

Raised in London, Ont. Kadri's entire family came from Lebanon. The (TSN) fellow, doing the profile, mentioned "even though they live in Leaf Country, the Kadri's are Canadiens fans." Adding how they despise the Maple Leafs. Sweet. Another P.K. Subban story. What makes the latter's strong affiliation, wth the Habs, more funny. Is that Subban was born and raised in Toronto.

Who knows? Maybe Kadri might get his wish and be drafted by Canadiens. Apparently, Montreal has the largest Lebanese community in Canada. Oh well. You can tell it's a slow day in the hockey world.

More importantly, can he say all the Arabic swear words correctly?

they said he might get drafted somewhere in the middle of the first so hopefully either he drops down to us hoping we make it far into the playoffs

My grandpa was from Lebanon and lived in Montreal later on

But about your post, it's not really that special at all....I live in the GTA and there's way more Habs fans than Leafs fans in my city

Habs are easily the 2nd most popular team in the GTA and its not even close for who is third.... I'd say that there is at least 5-10% hab fans.

cool story, thanks for the post.

it would be neat if the habs had a player with lebanese origins. the lebanese community here is habs-crazy.

I find it funny that people are surprised to see Habs fans in Toronto. It only shows those fans are intelligent; i mean what fan in his right mind prefers rooting for a team that has won squat in 41 years instead of a team that has won it 10 times or more since 1967?

Nazem Kadri was great in the OHL playoffs last year, and he was one of the younger guys IIRC. Unless we finish low and get a high draft pick, I don't think we'll have a chance to select him.

I consider myself sort of Lebanese since my mom lived there for a while (she's from Egypt tho).

I hope they draft him

I was at Canada's Wonderland this weekend and saw more Habs T-shirts and caps than Leafs ones. It wouldn't surprise me if some are former Leaf fans who jumped ship.

True, but that is a lot of weight he would have to add to get himself into say the 200lb range. I've never seen or heard of him before, so I guess it's definitely a possibility.

He's at 6' 165lbs now..

By 20 he should be a 6'1 185.. That's ok.

Why you gotta be hatin' on the Lebs bro?

If he gains another 20+lbs, depending on how good of a skater he is. I would definitely be interested. But I still would like for us to finally add a big offensive center for once.

Oh you know I love the Lebs.

I'd be wary of drafting Lebanese guys. It seems they all become lawyers then work in office towers then marry attractive Quebecois ladies, but at least they drink beer.

Then again, I may be stereotyping.
