And that was the option option I was talking about in the Sundin thread. If really some teams are ready to do miracles to get rid of some guys to make room for Sundin, that could mean other centermen available. And instead of putting all of our eggs towards Sundin, we should be active in seeing who will then become available that might end up cheaper and younger.

It might depends on the preseason, but for his first complete season, I would rather prefer Chipchura on the 4th line and doing some PK work. Then he'll be able to bring his play to become a better 2-way player and play on a 3rd line next year.

But it might end up that way anyway.....

Stephane Yelle would be a decent pickup as well. Play with Tanguay in Calgary too.

There will only be frenzy if he signs with team other that Avs.

I have this feeling Gainey will go with kid line as 3rd if Sundin goes elsewhere.

I like this suggestion!

Makes us tougher, better defensively, better in the faceoffs!

My vote goes to:

Robert Lang 6'3 216lbs
-4 million for one more season
- 07/08 stats 21G 33A 54PTS

Would looks real good on this team as a third line center. Plus montreal would have about 3 million to add another piece at the deadline if needed.

Tangs-Pleks-Kovalev
A.Kost-Koivu-S.Kost
Higgins-Lang-Lats
Kosto-Lapierre-Laraque

What do you guys think, and what options do you like?
You better not be the Matt Bulger I know in Musquodoboit Harbour!

NYR will trade one of Drury/Gomez to make room for Sundin. MTL will see this as an opportunity to acquire a young(er) proven winner and will certainly take them off NYR's hands..

Now I'm not saying it will be NYR that gets Sundin, but if a team is moving pieces to fit Sundin in, Bob Gainey should jump at the prospect of players becoming available and do his best to "improve the club".

UFA next year?

Has anybody released a list of the top UFA's not on the habs roster next year so we can see who the potential trade deadline targets would be if Sundin is not signed?

VKozlov, with a trade for Schneider and a Moreau sort of player may be a decent plan B

Both Drury and Gomez have NTC's, Lundquist is the only player they could move to make room for Sundin, Naslund, Redden and Rozival were just signed...unless they clear 3-4 smaller contracts, but they'd have a hard time icing 20 players as their 6 top guys already make up nearly 40 mil of the 56 mil cap

Maybe by stretching the possibilities....

They have right now around 715,000 left.

They get rid somehow of smaller contracts like Prucha (1.6), Kalinin (2.1) (even if they just acquired him....), Mara (1.9) means they'll have approx. 6.3 million of cap space. They now have only 5 D's so they need to bring a Sauer or a Sanguinetti up (approx. 850,000). Without Prucha, with Sundin it gives them 13 forwards.

6.3 - 850.000 = 5.5 for Sundin.....so if the Rangers are stupid enough to diminuish their D's, if they' re stupid enough to have no room to work with and if Sundin REALLY wants to play for them....there is a way....but like I said....by stretching it A LOT....

I keep saying it...Kozlov on a 3rd line would be good for us. Big right-hand shot...

I'm guessing the other third liners would be Kostitsyn jr and Latendresse. I'm all for kid line, but Gainey strikes me as someone who doesnt like to gamble like this.

Yelle would look good between those two, but I wonder if he can bring enough offence for the money (another Smolinski?).

Tanguay-Koivu-Lats
Higgins-Lang-Sergei
Kosto-Lapierre-Laraque

?

Randy Robitaille? 57% face offs
Stu Barnes? 54% face offs

Bring back Smokes? less face offs % but more physical than the laters.
