Predators Rivals?

This is a HFBoard wide project trying to figure out which rivalries are strongest for each team and thus where division lines should be drawn in the case of realignment.

In this poll select 3 or 4 teams you believe your Predators should be in a division with. Also post your thoughts, especially in this case where a team you select (Other) is not listed above.

I wouldn't mind dropping Detroit... might help us in the standings

I like the people that think Florida, Tampa and Carolina are closer to us than St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit....

I'm not sure I understand this poll...but shouldn't SJ be in there somewhere?

Edit: Nevermind. I suppose I had to read the OP's post first.

They may not be closer by miles but they are a more natural fit for a sports rivalry IMO. To me, it isn't strictly about the miles. Particularly for non-hockey, college football fans I think it would be more natural to develop a rivalry with one of the Florida teams than, say, Chicago.

Mileage-wise, it's a shorter drive to New York City from Nashville than it is to Sunrise, FL where the Cats play. According to Google Maps, every single city in the Central is closer than the second closest city in the Southeast. Only when you arbitrarily call Nashville a Southeastern team does it make sense to put us in the same division as the Cats, Caps, and Canes. In terms of proximity, those teams aren't near as close to Nashville as the Central Division teams.

Carolina and Atlanta, I would agree with. Not the Florida teams though. Any rivalry with them, especially Florida, would be just as staged as our rivalry with the 'Hawks.

Maybe but the average middle-TN person probably has more connection to Florida (the state) between driving to the beach, going to Disney, seeing SEC sports. I just think it would feel more like a natural rivalry even if the distance is greater. I understand the Miami area is a long way away but the Panthers have to play someone. If you put Nashville, Carolina and Atlanta in a division, then the two Florida teams have to be a part of it I would think.

North Carolina isn't SEC country, so I still don't get the connection. I guess, I differ as my mom and her family are all from St Louis so I want them in our division. I would like to see them move Atlanta too our division though. Although, I like Atlanta, so I'd have start not liking them. I liked Detroit at one time too.

I'll agree with your last line but just don't agree with the premise of Florida as a whole. The average Pred fan would enjoy a rivalry against a big city like Chicago more than against Tampa.

It would be hard to boot one of the current teams, but I too would like Atlanta in the division. If I had to choose, I guess I would go with Chicago, but I do like our games against them....probably the most even rival we have in the division. I hate Detroit, so that would be one to keep just so I can hate a team that we play often. I like the Blues as that was my team before the Preds entered the league and Columbus games have a lot of action. I guess that Atlanta would develope into that type of rivalry as they are close in distance...they are only a year younger than us as a franchise, and they need to move to Canada too.

Well this Poll looks clear.... switch Chicago with Atlanta and Nashville fans would have their perfect Division.
