Fla - Min

What do you guys think of

To Min: Jay Bouwmeester

To Fla: Marian Gaborik

I'm a Panthers fan, so I would do it, not sure if Minnesota would be too thrilled about it though. Don't know if they need a young stud defensemen, but we could use some scoring help. I'm guessing we'd have to throw something else in.

Gaborik is a franchise player.

Why do all these threads come up about trading Gaborik? I just don't see any logic in Minnesota doing so unless he starts scoring 10 goals a season.

and Bouwmeester isn't? The guy played the most minutes/game in the NHL [I think or maybe he was 2nd].

Solid defenseman and I'll have him over Gaborik but that's just me, I guess.

I never said he isn't. They both are, but why get rid of one, and bring in another?

Especially when your defense is among the best in the league, why trade one of the few offensive threats you have? Especially with Demitra and Rolston gone, the Wild would be stupid to get rid of him.

Yeah, the Wild probably don't need this deal so much, but the Panthers would do well to get something like this done.

The Wild need scorers with size, not more defensemen.

Pointless for both teams IMO.

Neither gets any type of guaranty and doesn't make there team better.

Better for both to keep there players and see how the season go. Then try to sign a extension or trade them at the deadline where there value will be at the highest.

No. We got a glut of defensemen already. Unless you want to take Johnsson for Weiss or Horton and we throw in a guy like uh...Hickey?

In Minnesota's case, they don't need a defenseman, period. They got 10 guys under contract.

Because he doesn't want to stay in Minnesota's clamp down system where his potential is a little bit squandered?

Yup. Most good teams will ususally have two.

Value-wise, this deal is pretty fair, but it doesn't really fill Minnesota's needs, which are pretty much all of an offensive nature.

Panthers say yes in half a heartbeat, but I think the Wild turn this down.

And Bouwmeester is better than every single one of them, with the possible exception of Burns.

If he doesn't think he can sign Gaborik, Risebrough may do something like this; otherwise, I would fully expect Minnesota to turn this deal down.

I don't know about that one. Florida is taking on a LOT of salary and potential salary there.

Both are RFAs. No way Florida adds one of its top forward prospects for an RFA unless it's a sign-and-trade. I don't see this deal happening anyways because if Florida trades Bouwmeester, it's gonna be for roster-ready prospects and picks.

Florida would be the answer? The guy had a career year, if he played like the way he did in the regular season, he could reach 50 goals in 08-09.

With Gaborik's agent talking to Spartak about a deal for next year, I don't see Martin giving up anything beyond Bouwmeester.

Minny would have a scary, scary defense. Top top-notch young guys in Burns and JBo, a great shutdown guy in Schultz, Johnsson is still a very good defender and then you've got Zidlicky who is a great PP-guy, and solid depth the rest of the way through.

Basically, without Gaborik they'd be playing even more of a defensive game, but who's going to score against them with a ridiculous defense like that?
