So same points and one round worse however 2007 we did one round better cause Dallas lost to Vancouver in 7 in round 1

Just trying to show the comment is not exactly warranted
ya those rangers teams have been gutted...

c'mon...

Avery has a big mouth... That's not suprising eh? He says what's on his mind and it seems to be somewhat effective.
I still like Avery, sure he's a ****, but just ignore the stuff he says. Don't take it so seriously. He's a pest and he is setting the tone.

Can't wait to the Stars meetings.

Possibly because neither of them offered him a contract.

Common themes I've found in the responses.

1. He's right. Dallas is better than NY.
2. He's been this way his entire career, why stop now?
3. This kind of behavior was fine when his paychecks were signed by the Dolans.

I'm in agreement on all three counts. If I was a Ranger fan, the only way I'd be pissed off is if he can put up career numbers, stay healthy all year, and play well past the first round of the playoffs next year.

I don't see all of those things happening.

tough question, because Dallas did get to play Phoenix and LA 16 times last yr...
just a thought when comparing each teams 97 points...

I do think Dallas has better chemistry than the Rangers at this point so maybe they get a slight edge, but I certainly wouldn't trade rosters with them

The reason he signed with Dallas is becasue they were foolish enough to overpay and commitment to a term longer than the NYRs offered and for a period far greater by 2 years than where he has lasted with any team. Hs inability to stay beyond 2 years tells you all you really need to know about his wearing out his welcome.

Yes it is but I suspect his former fellow players don't appreciate the remark very much.

Dallas went 3-5-0 against the Yotes last year. Along with the Yotes having the best record within the Pacific division. If you're going to use that to make a point, do the research.

Looks like Avery's a little bitter about the whole affair with Sather.

If we gave him the same money he'll still be here, and you won't be able to convince me otherwise.

Haha, whoever thought Avery would tone it down when it came to comments about NY is a fool.

Avery makes his living pissing people off, and now that he's on another team, his job is to piss off the NY Rangers, just like every other team in the league. He's not going to be nice to the Rangers, their fans, their players, their management, anyone. That's why we liked him when he was here, and that's just the player he is.

He already has his game face on and he's already doing his job. Don't cry about it.

Though if he was really honest, he'd say "I'm in Dallas because they offered me more money"

no surprise...he's right, but it does seem to be a bit of sour grapes. This is his personality and in the end, his personality, perhaps, is why he's not longer in NY.

I don't see why Rangers fans are angry here.

First of all, the statement is true. Second of all, you knew pestering others was his modus operandi and it is why the Rangers succeeded so much with him. It was to be expected. Lastly, if you switch the teams around, and it was Avery joining the Rangers, you'd love it.

I did the research, they got 16 points in 16 games against the yotes and kings, where as the Rangers earned 20 against the 2 last place teams in their division (isles and philly), the big difference being philly was a playoff team, as were the Rangers and 2 other atlantic division opponents...

but I apologize, Pheonix is the class of their division and it was terrible of me to use them in the example

Yup, probably part of the reason they didn't want to give him a 4 year deal for a bunch of money

Avery will be cheered by the garden faithful. The opinions on this forum are the minority of what the average ranger fan feels about him.

October 20th, can't come soon enough...

I'll ignore your sarcasm for now. The Yotes have a long way to go before being the class of the division.

But, the numbers show that they weren't exactly the punching bags that people assume they are. 6 points in 8 games is the key number here of course lumping the Kings into everything makes the Pacific division look worse, they're much closer to punching bag status. I just dislike the "free points" label the Yotes get whenever the Pacific is mentioned.

Anyway, we're on your side. We've always hated Avery.

The Garden Faithful are bright and reactionary; they don't take no BS...if a former player disses the NYR, fans will be hoping Orr or Voros pummel him. They can turn on a player as fast as a player can turn on them. And as for this being part of his 'agiration', considering much of the team has changed from last season, most players never met Avery, except perhaps on the other side of the ice. It's not like anybody needs to defend Jagr, Toots, Straka, Shanny, Strudwick, etc.

And I'll admit I did lump the Yotes in with the Kings, because it served my purpose although it wasn't a good example, and I'm sorry for going off like a jerk when you called me on it...I'm sensative

relax. this is the real sean avery. he says whatever he wants whenever he wants. hes a free spirit and a loose cannon. he alienates team mates and he gets under opponents skin. hes annoying and candid and a royal smartazz. when hes against you on the ice you want to kill him, when hes wearing your colors, hes tolerated and appreciated.

what he said wasnt untrue. lighten up people, what did you expect him to say? we will get our chance to shut him up when we play dallas and at that time, i expect him to get mostly love from the fans and if he gets too carried away on the ice, hell likely get a shot to the mouth a few times.
